The 7 stripes are for the original 7 states, New England, The South, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, The Big States and The Small States. The 26 stars are for the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, but the guy that designed the flag didn't like 30 of those guys, so he left them off.

That's my take on it.

Wrong Pinhead. If yopu are going to represent the flag, do it properly. Anything less is disrespectful. My family has roots back to gentlemen who fought in the Revolution and virtually every conflict since then. How long have your inbred relatives been here?
