Jinma tractor

My brother in law just had me go look at a tractor, a 2940 Agracat. I see it is made by Jinma. It has 42 hours on it and comes with a Kokyer loader and a 42 inch brush hog. The man wants $8900. Tell me about this tractor, he wants me to advise him. Thanks

It's Chinese. There are discussion forums on those tractors if you want to Google Chinese tractors. I don't know anything about the prices or performance of them. Another thing you should look for is dealer support.

From the model number it sounds like the 28 hp three cyl. diesel engine? I have owned a Jinma like this for about six months now.Got it brand new assembled and delivered, fresh american fluids, with loader for $8600. It has less then 60 hours on it so I cannot give any long term assessment on the reliability but so far it has been excellent. I only use it like a hobby farmer though.
As far as parts support there are several sources on the websites listed below. There are also lots of fellow owners with good info. Do some reading ...

Farmguy, RUN, RUN, RUN AWAY From this piece of junk, the best thing about it is the Koyker loader! and it isn't the tractor, I have had the misfortune to have to use relatively new 254 Agricat. NO place to get service! Parts! Oh yes parts, are shipped on a slow sailing Sanpan fron China to some dealer in Nowhereville USA, Not 2 weeks, more like 2 months. The hydrolic system is an afterthought, no strength, the seals will blow pulling fence post out of the ground! 3 point is all the way up or all the way down, no in between points. Bolts will not stay tight, this one the bellhousing is always works loose.
Go buy a JD, CIH, Ford, Massey, Mihindra, Kobota These tractor have real dealers with real Parts/Service Depts!!!
Do not waste your money on a NO Name tractor that you will have to take a beating on after you figure out you bought o real piece of Shi$!!!!
A releative bought this one new, took almost 2 yrs to put 25 hrs on it. I put the next 100 hrs on it in 6 months, 2 months of that was waiting on parts. Hopefully enough said Do Not Let Your BIL Buy this Piece of JUNK!.
Later,
John A.

If your BIL will be buying cheap junk from China.

For an important purchase like a utility tractor...Buy a well known name like JD, Kubota, Case IH or Agco. For $8600 you could get far better that will last for years instead of a Chinese import that will be junk quickly.

As the others have said, parts could be real hard to find.

Ask yourself this question: Would you buy a Chinese made Car or Truck? (not likely)

It is a Chinese tractor. If you are a good mechanic, it might work out. I think parts you can get. Service not so much. But the price is a at least $2000 too high. That is about what it cost new. Should be 20, 25% less, at least.

Does anybody know what the Chinese use, other
than a 1 bottom plow pulled by a water buffalo,or
Ox, or a Rototiller? Do they use Junky tractors
that fall apart quickly, or are the bad ones made
for the export market and no scruples wholesalers
and the better ones kept home ???

If you don't like your brother in law, then tell him to go for it.
But if he's good to your sis, then tell him to buy good old American made technology.
For the same money he could have a half worn out tractor from the 1960s or 70s and it will be twice more dependable with available parts and last longer in the long run.

It's priced $8000 too high.
While I bleed JD green. You can bring home a Massey 135 or something cheaper than that and have a real tractor.
In fact you can go to Mother Deere and for about $11,000. You can bring home an actual 2305 which is a real tractor. In 5 years the 2305 will still be worth 5 figures. The Jinma will be worth what ever scrap metal is per lb plus the fuel in the tank.
