Oil Spray ??

Hello Guys

I have a 70's Massey 165 and a 1951 Cat D2. On both machines the panels are sound, and nicely faded, just how I like them !! I don't want to repaint these tractors, but we live close to the sea, and rust never sleeps here.

Recently I read somewhere that some folk spray an oil onto their tractors periodically to prevent further deterioration.

What sort of oil (or other product) would be suitable and how often. Any other pointers ??

Cheers - Foster

what if you just clean them up and wax them? Would,t hurt to buff off some dead paint anyway. When I was a kid, my friend's dad worked at a factory that was real hard on the paint of workers' cars. He used Johnsons paste wax like you'd use on a floor.

Hi, I think that oil will retain dirt an dust tractor will look ugly. I suggest that you put few coat of high quality automobile wax on sheetmetal il will shine and dust will slip on it wax will protect from corrosion...you will be able to wash it with a garden hose.

I put Johnsons paste wax on my 55 Chevy once and that stuff lasted nearly 2 years. We were deployeeing on a 6 month Med. cruise right after I did it and since the car stayed at home with my parents Dad was the first one to wash it. He said it was nearly impossible to wash since the water beaded and ran off faster before you could get a soapy rag to it.

Prior to a sale, local auctioneers wipe 'em down with a rag soaked in diesel; makes 'em look good, but I'm not sure how long it lasts.

Hmmm - I can see engine oils and the like just collecting dust and crap and making a big mess.

I hardly ever clean my car let alone wax a tractor, and anyhow I was thinking as much as anything about the internal corners and condensation traps, thats where the rust starts, and getting wax into those places is nigh on impossible.

Keep thinking I think . . .
