How'd I do? Sometimes deals do come around!

Well, sometimes there are a few deals out there. I"ve been needing a small hay rake for awhile, and I got tired of always having to beg, borrow and steal. So I went on the hunt. Found a New Holland 56 only about 2 miles from where I work. It was sitting out in a barnlot in tall grass and weeds. I just stopped in and asked the gentleman if he would ever want to sell it. He told me he sold all his cows last year and would be glad to sell it. When we looked at it, the two tires were shot, hardly any paint on it, and seal out of gearbox on lower PTO shaft. Anyway, I asked what he wanted for it, and he said scrap metal price...how about $100. I bought it, slowly limped it home, put new tires on it, gun greased the gearbox, wire wheeled the whole thing, new paint and decals. That was last Wednesday AM at 9:00. I had it done and in the field by Saturday at 10:00AM. Total cost to me:
Rake-100 Tires-90 Decals-40 Paint-leftovers
Total cost $230. The gearbox ran cool and quiet and the rake ran smooth as glass, and picked up all the hay. I"m a happy camper!
I"ll try and post a picture

Not bad at all. I gave $500 for my model 56 at auction. Had bald tires, held air though, missing only 6 teeth, with the seal out. I just pulled the gear cover off and packed it with wheel bearing grease. Great little rakes! You got a heck of a deal, for sure! Can you get new decals for them? I'd like to paint mine up this off season.

Well, I couldn't get the picture to make the trip, so I posted 3 pictures in the Implement Photos section. Please flip over there and let me know what you think!
Thanks

TxFarmallFan - You betcha, I just called the local New Holland dealer and ordered the complete decal set. With tax, I think they were $41.
Good luck and thanks for the comments.

Nice looking rake; you did a good job.

Keep up the good work.

Post a photo of the sickle mower after you "spruce" it up.
