chisel plows and broadcast urea

Tomorrow will bale hay off of field ,, Then intend to Broadcast all Urea nitrogen needed for Corn in this field , Followed by light discing/scarifying Grass and protecting N depletion from hot sun until plowed in , Then 12 -16 inches chisel plow for hard pan problems ,1st time ever plowed since 1989... QUESTION ,, Will too much of the N get down too far below the corn roots to do any good for the corn ?,,. I would broadcast after chiseling but My Flimsey 3pt arms on my tub spreader have a tendancy to break out in ROUGH a$$ground ...I am betting there is no CLEAR Answer , But would appreciate your thoughts ... thanx jim

I would not think that you could chisel the N too deep. NH3 is put in aroud here for corn at least 12" deep. I always chisel tobacco ground after fert. to that it will be down deep where the plant will need it in July when the top 4" of soil is real dry and hot.

Good luck.

Dave

Why disc it? Broadcast the urea and chisel it in. Corn roots go way deeper than any chisel plow.
