Cow/calf prices?

Just wondering if any of you guys are up on what the current prices for cow/calf pairs are in MN? I haven't been to any sales for months. A friend of mine from church approached me about buying two black angus pairs he has. He is going all registered, and these two cows are not papered. One has her 4th calf, 3 weeks old, buy her side and the cow weighs about 12-1300lbs. The other has her 5th calf, 6 weeks old, by her side and weighs 17-1800lbs. He said he'd like $950 a combination. I want to be fair with him. Wasn't really looking for more cows, but he's a pretty good friend and I know he wants them to go to a home that he feels would be good for them.
What do you guys think?

I've been hearing $1200 for black angus pairs around here, some bringing more. I have to send you some pics, So far , one red heifer, one black heifer, and a solid red heifer from the same mother as that red bull I had. So far all calves are darn nice, I have one that is 3 days late, but she was acting funny tonight so I am expecting her in the am.

I'd like to see some pictures. I had a nice bull calf born today, and another one acting funny too. Actually, I'd say I'll have three more with in the next few days. I'll be glad to be done.

The last I saw, the Missoula Livestock Exchange had pairs @ $850-$1100. This was last Wednesday's auction.

Sounds like a good deal for You , last spring paid 1200 for 3-6 week old calves on 1st time very nice heafers ,I would jump on em ',If You can feed them .......For Me cattle is not selling well ,,,. , in late April sold some Heinze 57 trash heafers betwween 59 and 75 cents at Irvington Ky , Got 34 -37 cents for well fed OLd but still nice cows ,, Just wasn't too thrilled with those prices at ALL ,, I have some nice 7-800 lbs . heafers I hope to get 750 for in mid -June ..

$950 is a good price if they're decent animals.

A cow with a calf at her side is like buying insurance. You're lucky to find a nice 6yo cow/calf pair for under $1000.

I got burned last spring by buying 3 bred cows for $900 each. They looked really nice, but it turns out 2 of the cows had major udder issues when they started lactating. Ended up having to sell those 2 cows at a pretty big loss. I don't think I will buy anything but a heifer or a cow calf pair from now on.
