99 chevy 350 dropping cylinder at idle hard pull

Anybody have an idea as what will cause this ?
I checker plug wire with multimeter they check out between 2 & 21/2 ohms, plugs only have about 5,000 miles on them.
Thanks for any and all sugestions IA. Ralph

Have you taken a compression test on the engine? That may tell you what's causing it.

Also when it's dark outside pop the hood and see if you have any plug wires that are jumping spark to ground.

Also your cap or rotor could be bad.

These are just a few things that I can think of off the top of my head.

Well,,Ignition or fuel. They are bad for dist caps arching, real bad . If that checks out you might save your self some money and have someone check it on an ignition scope . Will pin point it quicky and save from throwing parts at it .

Hi Ralph,

That's "almost always" a plug or plug wire, because idle and load is where they are under the most demand.

I've had plugs that were bad right out of the box, 6,000 miles and everywhere in between.

Also, and I can't tell ya why neither, but off-brand plugs will fail on or before 6,000 miles on a GM product.

What do you consider 'off-brand'? I've a '91 w/ a 4.3 should I only be using AC plugs ya think? I've been fighting a cut-out at hills and such lately...

Yep,

I didn't believe it either.

But when the maufactures' went to solid state ignition systems, for some silly reason, this problem rose it's dirty little head.

On the other side of the coin, the AC plugs will fail in the Dodge too.

I got to the point where if an outfit came in with the wrong brand plugs and annoying miss, it automatically got the correct plugs.

Always thought it had something to do with the total secondary resistance 'er somethin'. Dunno.

Another tip: If ya buy plugs out of Wally World, yer buying seconds.

An experience I had:

I had a Chevy pickup with a miss for the first minute or two at first startup in the morning. A textbook example of failing spark plugs. Fat and dumb, I went to Walmart. Walmart used to sell all three, AC, Champion, and Autolite. When I got to Walmart, all they had was Autolite, so I bought a set of Autolites and installed them The pickup then ran worse all the time.

I went to NAPA and bought a set of the proper AC plugs and solved my problem. While I was at NAPA, I mentioned the problem I had with Autolite from Walmart. The parts man told me if I'd bought the Autolites at NAPA they would have been OK, it's just the ones from Walmart that are defective.

Adding it up, I deduced Walmart must have demanded price concessions on spark plugs until AC and Champion refused to deal with them. Then, apparently, Autolite caved and fed Walmart junk just to meet the price Walmart wanted.

I did get a refund from Walmart for the Autolites.

I can give you an account I ran into a few years ago.
Was traveling home to Indiana in the Summer and stopped in this gas station for fuel.
Fella there was just fuming. He had a 69 442 he just bought...and was just sweating and cussing something awful.
He was so mad he said the first person who gave him 500 cash could have the thing.
Well...I had a 442 when I came back from Vietnam. Sorry I ever sold it.
I listened to it and thought it might be a valve or a flat cam. They did heve a few cam problems back then.
I reached in my pocket and gave him the cash. He gave me the title and went to the Greyhound depot.
I rented a trailer and carried it to Indiana.
Got it there and started to back it off the trailer and it ran just fine. Went to the store...and it sounded like heck when it got warm.
I let it set until after supper and raised the hood. It was dark and the fire way flying all over that engine at idle.
I put a set of pulg wires on it and the correct AC plugs. That thing ran like a scalded dog.
To this day it runs just fine...cept for the gas.
Just my 2 cents...but check the wires and pulgs....
