rims and rust

Anyone ever give thought to replacing the calcium in their tractor tires with a 25% sol.etheline glycol and water? In my case the tractor winters in a heated area, so the guestimated 10+ freeze point wouldnt be an issue. I was wondering about the rubber being effected. I'm thinking of this for corrision control around the stem and rims. Have to repair them for rust. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks
 
Not an expert on your question on glycol and rubber. Just an observation that radiator hoses are rubber to. (same mix - probally not) no affect.

Issue is you will not get as much weight per gallon. Though it may work.
 
What do the shops who repair tractor tires in your area use? I dare say they all use/recommend the same thing and all started using 'that' at about the same time. Around 'here', they all went to alcohol (from CaCl) sometime in the '70s.
 
There has been antifreeze,windshield washer fluid,calcium cloride,and now stuff from beet juice (rim guard) used by many.
 
Bottom line. Rim rust caused by moisture. Moisetue comes from condensation from temperature changes. different formulas help a little nbut the main culprit is condensation from the temp changes. same as with fuel tanks in the winter time
 
The amazing thing about all of the rusted rim posts is the fact it took 40 to 50 years to rust out a rim that had a slow leak and all of the calcium just sat there (inside the tire outside of the tube) for years. I have had one rusted out rim,according to the owner that bought it new in 1953 it never had fluid in the tires.
 
Thanks for all the input everyone. I figured there was more to this issue than my little gray matter had got ahold of. And I do remember the rear tires sweating on those spring days. Guess I'll put this under the "DON'T WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT IT CAUSE I'M ONLY GOING TO BE ABLE TO SLOW IT DOWN" heading.
