Splicing a flat belt

We have an old grain roller and it will be powered by a gas engine. How do we splice the flat belt? Would the staples used on round bailer belts work? Thanks Missoula MT FFA

Ask a round baler implement dealer. It would be good for the classes to see how it is done.
Only because this is an educational institution asking, something used for making hay bales is a baler. My best guess would be that a bailer would be a machine for putting handles on buckets (the bails).

A bailer is the cat that springs you from Jail:)!

OK...aside from the corny humor........I often see belt splicers for sale on ebay. Look under Business&Industrial....which also covers Agriculture..and search for flat belt. You"ll find splicers, pulleys, and of course....flat belts.

Also look in local TSC or farm store. They should have an Alligator Clip kit for that.

The tool is called a lacer.Tried to sell one on here once but I think the guy didnt trust me.Now Im keeping in just in case. The lacer holds the staples and closes them in a uniform manner.Probably come up on a google they still sell em.

I would think that a baler bet splice would work. If you only have one belt and it's in good shape for the most part I would take it to a farm equipment shop and have it splice for about $25. If it's something you think you will be doing alot of, go the the shop one time and watch how they do it, then buy a $115 lacer from Shoup and do it your self from here on out. If you do alot of them you will get to where you can do it in very short time. (When working on baler belts you will move faster if you can hear thunder!)

Good luck.
