Sound Like A Scam?

Found an ad on Craigslist thursday for a construction management company looking for skilled workers. I emailed them me resume and I got an email back. It seems just a little fishy, but nothing serious. Here's the e-mail:

Hi Chris,
You replied to our ad for skilled tradesmen on Craigs List, our
company Construction Management DB manages the construction of
Federal,State and Commercial projects.Currently we have two projects
starting soon in your area. Three of our sub contractors are
interested in hiring you, they are paying union scale plus production
bounses,if you still need work. These are government projects so you
will need to furnish your prospective employers with a background
report. The background report will be limited to major
felonies(murder, terrorism, ect)so if you have minor issues in your past
it won't be a problem. The background reports are done at Corporate
Investigative Services http://www.corporateinvestigativeservices.com
Below are your employer ID numbers you will need these when filling
out the form at Corporate Investigative Services.Your Employer ID
Numbers = [774/421/454] these indentify the employers so your
background report can be sent to them.
In The Best Regards,

So, I clicked on the background check website, and it went to a very cheap, amateur looking website that wanted me to PAY for a background check to be mailed to prospective employers. I drew the line right then and there.

The management company in out of D.C. and their website is also very cheap and crappy, and they aren't listed in the Better Business Bureau.

What do you think? They could have been legit, but I don't need work THAT bad.

SCAM

You pay them and you enter the information needed to do a background check - like your social security number, birthdate etc...

They steal your identity and rip off your credit card at the same time. No one is going to allow the person having the background check done to enter their own information.

My grandson was walking througfh the mall and was approached by a cute girl who said he was just discovered and should be in the movies. He was told to come to some sort of studio or talent agency to take a test.My wife searched the Better Bus. Bureau and there was over two hundred complaints agianst them .It was a photo studio.I called him and tried to let him down easy but he wanted to check it out for himself.I at least planted one thought in his mind first; they need you so they would give you money they dont get money from you.He winded up wasting a nice Sunday afternoon but did not fall for the photo contract.Sad thing is these lowlifes are still in the local malls scamming kids. However on the same note Port Authority will now charge me 200 bucks for an ID card to work on any of their properties.I like to work for them and will have to spring for this card .But generally if your getting hired they pay you ,you dont pay them.Sad how they prey on old people too with every type scam.

As far as craig's list goes, you can flag an ad by looking at the top right side of the page, and clicking on the correct reason for flagging, miscategorized, prohibited, spam, and best of craig's list are the categories, if I remember right. Also you can post an ad in the same category, with Re: their ad title, and then describe what they are doing, and why they need to be flagged off, pretty soon, others will start flagging the ad, too.

I just retired from the Gov't. They do the background checks. They do not trust someone else to do what they can because they will issue a contractor'e ID badge. They will "BAR" you from any government site if you have any outstanding warrents, most previous arrests, and if you have any convictions you are "SOL"

I used to work in the film industry. We never charged for anyone to show up. They made what was called a cattle call. People that wanted to be extras showed up on their own time and money.

I received the EXACT reply, I mean word for word. I find that pretty odd. I am in another state, weird that each state has two openings and three companies want everyone? sure would like to meet up with ol' chuck wolfe in person and ask him very politley why he wants to take food out of my familys mouths?

Yes, it sounds like a scam. I'm an ex-Shelby CO. Sheriffs Officer and I'm getting in contact with my Buds back in Memphis with the FBI to check into this. Will let you know more later.

Same thing with me! I did'nt realize it until after I gave my social out! Kind of worried now. People and places like that need their kicked!

Here is the DNS info on that domain as well. Maybe call Eric up and give him a piece of your mind. The guy gets around. Same email address is used by windyshoresweb.com with an office in SC. phone # is 843-766-0505, cellphone of 843-532-2217. Since the govt seems unwilling or unable to go after these scammers, maybe a little unwanted attention may slow them down.

Same thing, only more recently, like the end of June on Georgia Craig,s List. Thought I had Google'd them before replying but I entered tdb instead of db. TDB is a legit temporary service agency. After applying to constructionmanagementdb, I got the same solicitation for the pay-up-front background check. This DOES NOT happen in the real world of employment, the employer pays for these checks. Wish I could have a face-to-face with db.

i often what would happen if somebody applied to these after contacting the FBI and setting up a re-scam using a FBI agent and his office as a applicant it might get some fireworks set off
