shipping question UPS vs FEDEX

They say fed ex is much cheaper any one deal with this? Around here they sub out deliveries to a private carrier (fedex rural area) Will they pick up at your buisness?

Around here the post office is the best for small stuff.
UPS across the border charges an additional 1/2 to 3/4 the price of the product as handling fees.

Depends on weight Fedex will carry larger and heavier boxes than UPS. Other than that there isn't much difference.
Weigh your item then goto UPS.com and FEDEX.com and lookup which cost less.

I once paid extra for 2 day shipping on a camera for the wife it went to Alaska and back to Oregon. They wouldn't return the extra cost.
I told them the next time they send my camera on a world tour to please take pictures for me.

For around here, I always use UPS or the post office, FEDEX is the last resort. I've literally watched FEDEX look for a house, and when they can't find the right address, they pick a place, and throw packages(yes, I mean throw) out at the wrong house and speed away as fast as they can. I've watched it happen several times. They also have to call for directions to my house most of the time, I've even had to go to their terminal to pick a package up before after they said it was an "undeliverable address"...same place the post office and UPS comes to all the time. Explain that one to me...

I've received packages that I know were shipped with Fed-Ex, but were delivered to me by UPS. I've also seen trucks at the UPS terminal as well as out on the highway that were pulling one UPS marked trailer and one Fed-Ex marked trailer. I doubt if one would be any less expensive than the other. For my needs, the U.S. post office works the best, is the least costly, and if you use click-n-ship, they will pick the package up right at your door or from your mailbox.

FEDEX- when it positively, absolutely, has to get there..........whenever they get around to it. Sent a few ounces, less than half a pound, of oil sample yesterday via UPS. Over 8 bucks. Will use USPS next time!

Im a little partial because Im a manager for UPS but honestly FedEx may be cheaper if your pkg gets there. Around here our UPS center outruns Fedex about 3 to 1. We deliver 10-13,000 a day and send out about 4-6,000 pkgs a day from here in Bryan TX. UPS carries a lot of USPS stuff from hub to hub and then delivers it to the post office for them to put their face on it. Most importantly though, pack your boxes tightly! If there's void space in that box when we put it in a "wall" in the trailer it will probably buckle and squash whatevers in there. Also I will NEVER send anything UPS, FedEX or DHL in an envelope. If your sending documents send them in a small box, trust me on this one. Way too many conveyors to get caught in.

As long as it is not liquid or hazardous material, try USPS.

You will want to take it to a Post Office, don't try to put stamps on the package. Otherwise, if you do have a printer, you can do Click and Ship.

Google USPS or go to usps.com for more details. Just trying to make it as inexpensive and convenient as possible for you. DOUG

That's a good question. I use all 3 (UPS, FedEx, and USPS)

USPS has Priority mail "Flat Rate Boxes" for about $12 - doesn't matter what it weighs, great for heavy stuff that fits in a 12 x 12 box. The other nice thing is that they will pick up at your house as long as you notify them online by about 2am that day. Saturday delivery is free too.

FedEx is almost always less expensive than UPS, but they tend to screw up about 1 in 6 packages. Either they forget to pick up (most common), or occasionally, they lose things. Normally quicker than UPS for me.

UPS. Good for when you need to make sure it gets there. Costs a little more though.

After the last UPS strike when we had new tires delivered with the side walls cut out from tow motors spinning their wheels on my new Michelins, I will never ship on UPS again. It happened three times.

The biggest problem that I've had with UPS is getting them to deliver anything in one piece and on top of that when you file a claim with them, they deal with the shipper, they make them jump through hoops until they say screw it,I've never gotten a penny for anything that UPS delivered to me that was broken.

UPS could tear the crap out of an anvil with a rubber mallet!! They have broken tractor camshafts and other tractor parts, that have been packed very well. Had a cam come in sch. 40 PVC.....UPS BROKE THE PVC PIPE! The UPS guy that came to handle the claim looked at it and said "The only way that could happen is someone dropped it" Well, no $hit shirlock!!

Had UPS damage another item, that was packed tightly in a box, steel banding and corner reinforcements on the box to hold the thing together....they still damage it. Took over 3 months to get them to pay off the insurace claim. It was exactly like you said, jump thru hoops until you say screw it. Became enough of a pain in their rear they finally paid it, but wanted to keep the broken item....which was BS, but anyway.......

Go overkill on the packaging, and insure for $1000 or more and it MIGHT get there in one piece.

I try to use those Post Office flat rate box"s,
but around here Fed Ex delivers about 9AM, Ups about 4Pm-so I specify Fed Ex,if possible. It
makes a difference when you"re waiting for parts!
Get em early, and get the job done the same day.

I work at UPS, so I prefer a UPS delivery. Up here in Minnesota, if you live out in the country and are expecting a package FEDEX, they will deliver every other day, whereas UPS delivers everywhere, everyday. Yeah UPS may be a little more expensive, but you are paying for your package to get to its destination by a certain day! I have seen damaged packages, and 99% of the time its because the item was put into the box and not properly packed (ie: bubble wrap, styro p-nuts, paper). USPS ships some of its smaller items with UPS.

All in all, you are paying for SERVICE. If you pay for the cheaper shipping, then thats what you will get!
