john deere 214 gets hot help!!!

any advice? mowed with it for the first time sunday and it got so hot started studdering? pulled plug a little white and extremely hot? is it running to lean? what should i do or how do you check? thanks

The carburetor could be set too lean, but it could
be something blocking the air flow to the engine, like a mouse nest, dirt or grass. Pull the fan shroud and see what's under there.

How big of a mower are you trying to operate and what are you cutting?

check the ing timing. If cam lobe or point plunger is worn seting point gap with feeler guage wont work. need to use a timing light.
