just bought a 950, diesel, 4wheel drive, loader.looks to be in excellant shape, has 894 hours on meter, a513jd brush hog that looks like new and an old beat up looking back blade and gave 7000.00 for the whole mess. did i get raped to bad? thanks

I've always wondered how people purchase first then do do the research 2nd?
You paid somewhere between average to slightly under average price depending on the local market and economy.
If you look around there are loaders and backhoes for those tractors. Makes them even more useful.

The hour meter usually means nothing and condition is everything.

As I recall, we sold those 950s brand new for around $7000 - in the late 70s.

Nothing on that tractor is made by Deere except the paint and decals. But, they're very good tractors. I wouldn't pay a penny over $4500 for a 70s version with 2WD and manual steering. I've had chances to buy them beat-up but running for under $3000.

Newer and nice condition with 4WD and loader? Who knows? Seems you cannot buy any 4WD in good shape for less then $7000 unless it's a SAME or Belarus.
And, if you buy an older Belarus, better see it it glows in the dark, first.

Probably because when you come upon a good deal, you've gotta jump on it- if you do research first, you'll probably lose it to someone more decisive.

Kinda too late to woory about it now ?

But it does sound like a good deal. Those Yanmar built 50 series tractors for Deere are among the best trouble free ever built.

I assume the loader is "JD" matched to the tractor vs an old used one. The loader alone is worth 2500. The cutter a thousand. You paid about $3500 for the tractor. I know of guys who pay that much for a Ford N. But then, that a whole 'nother story. (;>))

Are you happy with it? Does it do what you need it to do? You own it now, hope you're happy with it. Use it safely.

It took a humbling experience here some years back to bring me back to my senses and knock me down a notch or two, and some others. Some fella paid $17K for a really nicely painted and possibly restored 3020. My jaw dropped as did some others, and we said some things that we probably shouldn't have. One of the old timers here whacked us a good one, well deserved too, and reminded me of something I'd seemed to have forgotten for the moment. Was that fellas money, he can spend it anyway he wanted so long as it was legal. I've got an '80 950 that I paid less for up front, 2WD but put some $$$ in repairs and now have more in it than yours, and even though I don't use it much, it has its uses. It aint going anywhere for the $$$ invested unless I want to take a loss, so it aint going no place, nor does it need to. Its the little guy, but not incapable. Loader makes it nicer. 25HP, tips the scales at about 3K if memory serves me correctly. Nothing's perfect.

Good luck,

Mark
