OT---Barn Security Light Problem

I have a high pressure sodium security light at my barn. The problem I am having is that it turns off at various times and then comes back on in about 3 to 5 minutes. I have checked all wireing associated with it.
Anyone know of a good way to correct the problem without buying a new one? The light is about 2 years old and, of course, made in Communist China.

I have the same trouble with my motion sensor lights. Surprisingly, also made in china. I searched all over for some made anywhere else but china, no luck at any price. Menards replaced the original ones twice, but they still work when they want to. I guess the workers making 12 cents an hour take no pride in their work.

Other than bulbs quitting all together the one time replacement of the photoelectric eye stopped the recycling on/off.

In the electrical trade it's called a "cycler". After so long the gas inside the lamp breaks down and it takes more "excitement" to keep it lit. As time goes on it will stay lit for less time until it finally quits altogether. The sooner you change it the better it will be as it makes the ballast in your fixture work harder.

My light at the house has never had a problem but the ones here at work seem to do that a good bit. Seems like most of the time it is the little photo eye on top. Easy to change, but I don't know how much they cost, order'n stuff is above my pay grade here.

No security in a light. If a crook breaks his leg on a plow or set of cultivators laying around you will hear him cussing and will be able to catch him on that broken leg. Be careful around my place after dark. No lights of anykind and lots of rusty iron sitting all around. I fall over some of it myself now and then.

I would also think that since so many folks holler about saving energy and such that boogie man lights should be outlawed to run all night. Even the country looks like the city of the night now days. I ain't scared of no boogie man.
