Got home from work this morning and two old cows were off by themselves. Been watch'n close for the last two weeks. They were just starting to do their thing so I left'm alone and went to bed. Sent the wife to go check cows after I left for work tonight. She called just before dark and could hardly talk, hadn't heard her that tore up in a while. Got two pretty black babies. They will be pop'n out like pop corn for the next 3 weeks.

I try to shoot for the first of April and seems like I never have any before the 15th. Guess when I turn the bull out he don't want to be to forward and get to know them first or something, that or maybe I can't count, I don't know!

I have a little cow/calf operation about 40 miles due south of Nashville, near Spring Hill, TN. I have 52 head of black Angus, but only about 27 of them are momma cows. The others are calves, heifers, and a registered bull. I don't synchronize my calving so I have some new calves all year round. I had a new heifer calf this morning when I went out to feed. She's as cute as a button.

Granddad always had calves all year round too. The year he died I had a heifer born Jan 2nd and her ears froze off. I said never again. Rather than miss a whole year on half the herd I spit it up and have calves in April and May, then again in October and November.

I have family a little south of Nasville in Columbia.

Started a week ago. 17 on the ground as of this morning. One backwards,but saved it. Hate to even talk about it. Might jinx the whole thing.
 
Had another calf born this morning but had to fight the buzzards for it. Some chased it into the fence while the cow was fighting off the rest of the flock. One buzzard died with high velocity lead disease and the rest left for good, I hope. Watch out because those Ky buzzards are hungry.
