OT; Ford truck tires

Just was wondering what anyone can suggest for tires for a 2000 Ford F250 powerstroke diesel. I bought tires in 07, there called Laramie or something, now they are almost bald! I tow a trailer, dont drive like an idiot, carry weight, and put about 15,000 miles a season on it, I run it April to December. I had Good Year Wranglers on it when I bought it, but couldent find them again. Had Kumo which were junk. Is it just me, or tires made not to last nowadays? What do you guys find that you have good luck with? Spending $500 to $600 for tires every other year $ucks... How About Cooper? Thanks j

JayinnY, Just put a new set of tires on my F-350, 4x4 7.3 DSL, Crewcab, on singles. Stock tires were 265/75 R16 on stock cast aluminum rims. Just put a new set of BFG TAs the same basic tread pattern that BFG started with 25 yrs ago. Size 285/75 R16s mounted on the stock rims! Just under $200 / corner. Total bill was $1060. With an alignment too $1250 Tax Title & Tags out the door! I needed a wider tire to keep my rearend on the ground when I showered down on her, not hotroding around just accelerating to merge onto the interstate.
Anyway hope this helps.

I've been runnin' Coopers on everything lately and have been very satisfied. If you do a mix of driving then I'd recomend the Cooper Discovery ATR's. I think they've got a 50 or 60k tread wear warranty but realistically can expect 40 to 45k miles, at least that's what my dealer told me and it's pretty much held true. I like they way they ride, good in the rain, decent off road, and decent in snow. I like'm.

Coopers are made by Goodyear!!

I put Uniroyal on our minivan and Mastercraft on our F150. Have had good luck with both brands.

I change the oil every 2-3,000 miles and check the air pressure at every oil change. Most people never think to check air pressure, except when they look low and how often to they look at their tires.

Running an overloaded tire is the same as running a low tire. Causes premature breakdown of the side walls and premature wear on the tread.

Not true on Goodyear making Coopers. Cooper has eight of it's own manufacturing facilities and makes several other "off" brands as well. In fact, Cooper makes and owns Mastercraft tires. Goodyear actaully quit making and rebranding tires a couple of years ago and cause a major upheaval in the tire world for a little while. Goodyear now only makes Goodyear, unless thats changed in the last few months.

For the last 15 years I've had Big O Tire Co."Big Foot" LT235/85/R16 10 ply rated tires on my Ford F350. I pull a Jayco 35 Ft. 5th Wheel RV Trailer which weighs around 15K and have very good luck with this line of tires.Warranty can't be beat and they wear well. Last I checked their tires were made by Cooper.Regardless they all are stamped "Made in USA" not India or China as so many other brands are.

i run mostly interstate with a chevy duramaxx single cab with a utility bed with welder and torches full of tools truck weighs 10500 lb. i have in the past run bridgestones and i can get right around 70000 miles out of em. i also rotate them every 10000 miles.but this time i went with michelin tires hope to do better yet. RICK

Upgrade to 19.5's. You'll never need to buy tires again. You will also never have another flat tire. The upfront cost of $2500 is somewhat higher because you need to buy rims too. The ride will also be a little stiffer.
Rickson Tires

i had a 02 f-250 at 40,000 miles i put on a set of 10 ply michelins and sold it at 82,000 and the tires had over 1/2 tread. yea they cost more but they wear good and ride great. ran 80 psi in them and pulled a 34 ft tagalong trailer.

i run 19.5 michelins on my 650 and at 350.00 each thats high alright.and still only get 80,000 out of them and i run the interstate all the time. i wuld stick with 16"

If those Laramies are their mud tires and they went through two seasons of 15,000 thats 30,000 miles and thats about all my friend hopes for out of his load range E buckshot mudders on his 97 F350 Powerstroke and it is always hauling a dump trailer full of sawdust and he drives like a grandpa. Unloaded with mud tires I would try for 40-50,000 before they wear out. If they are not mud tires that seems pretty pathetic and I will put another vote in for Cooper.

Cooper BTDT NO-WAY ! They were no good !

I had a brand before on other trucks called Traction King by B.f. Goodrich ? they were good for traction and held up decent ? Well they went and changed the tread design and this last set is NO GOOD either ! Why do they seen to keep taking something Good and ruining it ?

Try Michelin When I bought my truck it had some on it. They got worn down but have a little tread left and mine are too hard to bite in the winter. I have no idea how many miles were on them ? but I put alot on them. I can still put them back on in summer and run them and the truck runs down the road better then anything else I have tried. Really can't seem to totaly wear them out ?

Wifes van came with Goodyear Integrity they held up good so put them back on it. You might try looking harder for the Goodyears.

A friend of mine had Good year wranglers on his 1998 ranger for many years, he got 100,000 miles out of them, rotated every 10k miles. He swears that this is true......I also bought GY tires for my car which now have 25k miles on them and are holding up well. I think GY tires are very good, expensive but good.

How many miles total are on your tires? If it is over 50k I would think that you did okay.

A tire salesman told me that all tires are good but many sit at a giant warehouse waiting to be shipped out. sometimes they can sit there a year maybe longer.

If you get a fresh tire that hasn't been sitting around that long they will last a lot longer than those that have been in storage. I was told years and years ago if you want to store tires store them in your basement where it is cool.

If I get 30 -40 K miles out of a set I think that's pretty good for traction tires. Now I have a Dodge with 50k on the original Michelin street tires and they still look good but are not worth a darn it the mud. You get what you pay for. You can have traction or you can have wear.

Goodyear and Cooper have NEVER been together. Cooper actually probably makes more tires than Goodyear, The main Cooper tire headquartes is 50 mile from where I live. MasterCraft is a Cooper brand that they came up with to be able to get Goodyear and Firestone tire dealers to also carry them as a better line of tire. If it is a private brand lable chanses are that it is a Cooper.

I did have Toyo on another van and they were ok.

They do seem popular in our area. Price is usually good too.

My dad has been running a set of 19.5s on his Ram 2500 for 5 years now. He has about 60k miles on them and there is no visible wear. Under the same driving conditions the factory set were bald before 60k.

I'm speculating that you 650 is heavier than a 3/4 ton pickup. That might affect how well they wear.

It probably also depends on what tread pattern you get and why type of driving you do. Good luck.

Jared, they were highway tires called Laramie Stelth. I might look at cooper discover AT. My brother has them and likes them.

Coopers are not made by Goodyear...they are a standalone tire company that makes most of the private label tires sold in the US. Based out of Findley, OH

I sell Private label Cooper Mesa APs to my farrier for his similar F250 in a 285/75-16 E load. He loves 'em, gets about 60k out of them, drives around with a fully loaded shoeing cap on the back all the time> TK, Big O, NTB and Merchants will all carry these tires
