Its official, tractor 4 gets delivered monday or
tuesday :-D

So what im wondering now is, what will i have to
do to the carb on it?? Ive never had a tractor
that ran 3 or 4 or 5 years ago, just ones parked
sevral decades back.

Would this things carb need to be rebuilt?? Just
cleaned?? How could i tell just by looking at it?
? It was parked with some gas left in it.

Lance, I would try it like it is other then maybe put so gas in the tank and remove the drain plug so as to let a let gas flow out of it to clean or any water or rust and give it a go. If it works well then good if it doesn't then the only thing you have wasted is a little bit of time and you then know you will need to rebuild it. Those carbs are pretty simple and I have seen them sit for years and be ok and others sit for a few months and need a lot of work

OK. How is the coil wired on there?? Does anyone have a diagram or something??

What do you think i'll have to do to the distributor??

Well if in fact it has a distributor instead of a mag about all you should need to do is clean or replace the points. Once cleaned or replaced just check for a good spark and you should be good to go

The gasoline we have today will gum up a carburetor in less than three months if allowed to just sit. If yours has sat for 3 to 4 years, you will at least want to open it up and clean the needle valve and seat. No need to remove the seat from the carb, just remove the float, take the needle out and clean with spray cleaner, do the same to the seat, and put it back together. If you are very careful, and take your time, you should be able to save the gasket and re use it.

lanse, best advice i can give you is "dont assume anything" on the tractor. check all the fluids, maybe pull the oil pan drain plug and drain a cup or so of oil out and look at it real good. pull the distributor cap, check out the points and cap and rotor for corrosion. pull the spark plugs and squirt a couple tablespoons full of auto trans fluid in each cylinder, let em soak a day, be a good idea to get some atf or penetrating oil up on the valve train and let them soak too before you try to fire it up. if a valve is stuck open, you could bend one or crack a piston.
