I want to plant some Silver Queen corn this year. I only need about two lbs. Is there a good sight that sells small quanities of seed. Thanks, Stan

Find a seed corn dealer in your area. Pioneer, and DeKalb dealers usually have sweet corn seed this time of year. My Pioneer guy sells it in one pound bags.

We plant sweet corn from either Jung's or Johnny's seed co. Both are on the net, and sell in 1 lb bags. We order the sweet corn along with the other seeds for the garden & pumpkin patch we have every year. Year old sweet corn seed never seems to do very good, so new seed each year is a must.

Gurneys has the Silver Queen seed. I use to raise this sweet corn and we froze a lot of it. I had 8 rows 100 feet long. I used an old corn knife for cutting off the stalks and made a big corn shock so it would dry. Then I shredded the stalks and spread it around over the garden.

That's an older variety, they have made great improvements to sweet corn just like they have with field corn, check out some seed catalogs, there are newer varieties that will give the type of corn you want (freeze, canning or table sweet) length to maturity and so on. I've tried silver queen and a few other white sweet corn but found that they drop their sugar to fast and become starchy if not eaten the day they're picked.

Planted Silver Queen for years. Last year switched to Silver King and I was very happy. I buy from Rohrer Seeds, www.roherseeds.com. $13.99 per pound for the Silver King, 82 day corn. I also planted Seneca Snowshoe, really sweet but more money,$16.59 per pound, 65 day corn, only grows about 4ft tall.
