OT: Here s a new twist on an old scam

As some of you may know, I own a transmission repair shop.

I have seen many of the nigerian type scams, but this is the first one I have ever gotten directed at my line of work.

What s the deal with them wanting me to bill their credit card?? I know this is a scam, but what s the angle??? Here s the email----

i will be expecting your reply back asap.

Inventive, aren't they? They probably need a merchant number. You can be sure that's some victim's credit card or even a bogus credit card number.

Several hundred really expensive "defective merchandise" or "returned merchandise" charge-backs pushed through your credit account and out of your bank.

i have been seeing similiar offers here at my body shop. same type of program, car is wrecked in texas, they want to tow the car up here to illinois for repairs, prepay, yada yada yada. had one guy even call me with the same schpeel. i told him to find a local shop in texas and have them repair it. i cannot believe there are no body shops in texas that can repair a wrecked car.

Its step one, most people do not have the means to process a credit card. When you tell them you can't they will then say they will wire the money to your account - please send aba routing number and account number......

The last time I heard that one the caller claimed to be deaf and used a TDD device to place a classified ad at a newspaper. It made the conversation very confusing and they didn"t want to be rude to a person with a disability. Really caught them off guard. They are clever devils...

Just tell them that you will take CASH & ONLY CASH upon completion of job, and it is their place to get car to your shop not yours. You will not have to worry about them E-Mailing you again.

He's going to get a refund from the card company after he claims the work was not done right. Then the card company comes back to you for the money they gave him.

that's the secret to a free college education!!! tell your credit card the teaching was below your expectations and you didn't learn a thing!

wish i would have thought of that 10 years ago, maybe it's time i get my masters...

Broken, you are so right, this is a scam. Sometimes just opening the E-mails will hurt you. In 2007 850,000 americans had to replace their computers because of spam like this. Organized criminals are causing havoc for windows users in the hunt for cold hard cash. To many people (I for one) are clicking without thinking-exposing themselves to hackers who are hell bent on gaining access to confidential information and raiding bank accounts. Never open unsolicited attachments, however tempting they may be, Instead delete without opening or forward to the FBI's internet crime complaint center at www.ic3.gov
I'm telling you this from experience!!
good luck: Ron
