restored an H farmall that has been converted to 12 volt with a one wire GM alt. the people that converted it had cut the hood out, i replaced the hood and am ready to restore the chargeing system. i don't think there is enough room for the GM alt. i noticed that my compact kobota has a smaller alt. has anyone done this conversion and kept the hood orig. ???? any suggestions..

With all due respect,if you're bent on keeping it 12 volt, might I suggest a new wiring harness and a 12 volt generator and voltage regulator? The diesel tractors from that vintage all used 12 volt generators and were all Delco and would bolt right on and look original.

I have done a Case 311, International 350U and a Farmall H, all without cutting any sheet metal. It's all in taking the time to make the right brackets to tuck the alternator in there. Pretty tight fit on all of them, but it can be done. When it's all over there's very little room for belt tightening.

I fully agree. An H does not need 12 volts.
