ECM question

I have a '94 Chevrolet 1 ton dually. 5.7, manaul transmission. It has been sitting since Oct and I used it once in early February. The truck always started easy and ran good. One of my employees went to move it yesterday and had a hard time getting it started and keeping it running. I tried to start it last night and could not get it running. I poured a little gas down the throttle body and it would start right up and run until the fuel was gone. Using a test light, I have no power to the fuel pump fuse or the fuel pump relay. There is a strong burnt wiring/ burnt plastic smell in the truck cab on the passenger side. I pulled the ECM this morning and the smell is from it. Is my guess that the ECM is toast correct? Also, I don't have any power to 2 fuses. 1 is labeled crank, the other pnl or something similar.

THE FUSES PROBABLY POPPED WHEN THE ECM WENT "SOUTH" ON YOU. NOW THE ECM IN YOUR TRUCK SHOULD BE NUMBERED 16196395 OR 16197427-WHEN YOU REPLACE THE ECM DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE THE E-PROM UNDER THE LITTLE ACCES DOOR, OR YOUR ECM AIN'T GONNA WORK

The fuses haven't popped, there is no power to the either of those fuses.

ECM is 16196396. Thanks for the heads up on the e-prom.

Get an ECM from your GM dealer.Aftermarket ones are junk and my aftermarket parts guys(Napa,Carquest, etc.) admit it!

Info on swapping prom chip under cover on ECM is correct.Be gentle with it.

The crank fuse will not have any power until ignition is in crank position. The other is the dash panel illumination and won't have power until park/headlamps are on and panel dimmer dial is turned up.

Thanks! Pretty much what I figured for power to the 2 other fuses. These things are way over my head anymore and I appreciate all the help you guys have been.

The fuse labeled pndl won't have power until you turn the lights on and then it may be dim as it comes from the reostat on the light switch

Germ I would be Concerned as to why the ECM Smoked?

Dead Shorting or a Compromised major ground.
Or Water leaked into the ECM shorting it?

I don't know about GM But I have only Seen one ECM Smoke and burn all on it's own without any outside causes. That was a Bendix antilock brake controller ECM.

Tom, your answer was so helpful. At least I'm not socially and mentally challenged.

I had a similar problem on my 97 5.7 Chevy. No start up. We determined it to be the fuel pump. Changed it and no better. Checked fuses, power and the relay. Only thing we had was a slight power draw when turning key on. After thinking about it over night we determined the slight draw was all we were going to get. When you turn key on the pump pressurizes then tell computer all set. Start up and then power is applied to pump. My problem ended up being a bad ground wire to the pump. Corroded connection on the frame.
