We got gas everywhere, even coming out by the muffler. Ive never seen her do that before.

I think its safe to say shes flooded.

Fuel?? I think i got the timeing REAL close tonight

No, unfortunately I'm still tracking down some parts. Soon though I hope...

For sure though on yours, if you see gas anywhere it should be safe to open the choke completely.

Lanse is it ever dry & warm in your part of the world ??...every time I see one of your vidio it's wet & cold....70 here & some farmers are planting rice...located NW Miss. LOL ...Kent

"I think its safe to say shes flooded. "
Yep! Change the plugs as I'm sure they are gas fouled. Easy on the choke next time. Pull it clockwise around the house. Might change your luck. David.............

If I may suggest do not steer by the spokes. You want to hold the wheel in a manner that when that wheel spins back you do not want any fingers or thumbs in the way. Steering wheels, on old tractors and trucks, would often spin back and could result in some pain.

Just a thought, If you own a crank for that thing, take out the plugs, and if they are champions, throw them away and get anything but champions, if something else get the map torch and get the tips red hot to clean them and while they are cooling roll that motor over with the crank to blow the fuel out of it with the gas off and choke off. Replace the plugs stick the crank in the front, roll it over with the choke on till it pops, take the choke off and start the thing.

Lance the magneto is not as forgiving to adjust as a distributor. someone may chime in and tell you of the spark impulse thing to correctly adjust timing.

I would also check the oil for a gasoline smell. If the cylinders get washed down could fire into oil pan and blow all the gaskets. { I had a car do that.
You are gettin it close Good luck !

My suggestion would be to make sure you thank your mom. She must be a really cool lady to do that for you. It looks cold?

Lanse, think about it this way. If you are within about 5 degrees on the timing it should start. May not run too well, but should start. May not even run at tick-over but should run at half to three quarters engine speed.

Choke is used to richen the mixture for cold starting, therefore you should be adjusting the main jet for richness until you find it will start as you increase the effect of the choke - you are effectively adjusting it richer, but not weaker than 'no-choke' running.

Hope you are turning that engine faster than it seems on your video. The main jet system will not be functioning at all at tick-over speeds. Think - would the engine normally like to be in top gear at that speed? Probable answer is no!

Remember there are, or have been millions of engines like yours out there and they all ran. Yours should be no different; right amount of fuel, compression, spark at the right time and it must run. Pretty basic science, really. OK, they like to be hot as well but they usually have to run first to get hot.

Are you sure you have the mag timed to No1 piston when its at TDC on the compression stroke? That engine should start with the hand crank. You may have washed all the oil from the cylinder walls. You should pull all the plugs and see if they're wet. Let the cylinders dry out and squirt some engine oil into each one, then install new plugs.
Hal
PS: Make sure the kill wire on the mag is in the
run position when making a start.

For goodnes sake, isn't there someone on TYM that lives close to Lanse that can help him get this thing started?!?!?!?!?!

I think you are off on the timing. If you have it on the compression stroke, and the piston is at top dead center, the rotor should be real close to if not right on the number one spark plug lug on the mag or distributor.Set it on TDC,mark the position of the number one plug wire on the mag or distributor.Pull the cap off and it should be pointing to your mark,or just a little past.Once you get it like that, and you are positive its on the compression stroke, which means both valves are closed, then it should hit by cranking it if you have clean dry plugs, are getting good fire to them, and we know you are getting gas. Then it should run.Even if the timing is off a little it should run when you pull it.So you might be off just a tooth on the gear that turns the mag,(plus if you turn it the wrong way remember to turn it 2 teeth teeth back to change it)or maybe dont have it turned enough,or you could have the plug wires in the wrong place. If you cross 2 wires it probably wont run,but it would hit and try maybe.

im goin to mississippi, i hate winter :-D

Kubota @ 15mph/500miles

Well, mabey not. Enjoy it!!

Lots of suggestions;
1) take all the plugs out and burn them dry.
2) Static time that engine with the TDC(Center) mark on the flywheel and the mag rotor pointing DIRECTLY at the #1 terminal
3) Make sure your firing order is in the direction of travel of the rotor.
4) LET THE CLUTCH ALONE WHILE PULLING DON'T KEEP PUSHING IT IN AND RELEASING. ONLY PUSH IN WHEN STOPPING OR THE TRACTOR STARTS
5) MAN UP and crank that engine by hand, NOT the way you did when bringing oil pressure up, BUT by PULLING the crank in HALF TURNS, if the timing is right you will get a pop, if it isn;t it will jerk the crank out of your hand OR break your arm.
6) If you have things right (which you DON'T) that B should have fired and started before you got to the road the first time.

Lanse I have never left you a post so I thought I would give you the benefit of a lifetime of working on gas and diesel engines. If you pull it, or start it with electric starter, if it doesn't start in 20 feet it probably isn't going to. Stop and figure out why. Sounds to me like its timed to fast. Preigniton One last thought, never think you know everything about engines cause it'l jump up and bite you Just my thoughts. Bernie Steffen

You guys might think I'm crazy but just wait until it warms up, to at least 55 or 60. Stuff works starts and runs a lot better when it warmer.
