Old truck ??????'s

Hey folks,
Looking for some advise on a good idea grenade that is about to blow up in my pocket...

I'm thinking about getting a pre computer, pre fuel injection, pre a whole bunch of other fancy stuff pickup and shipping it over here (Germany) to use around the place and as a daily driver and pulling a 2 ton (max) trailer.

Interested in a pre 1973 Chevy or pre 1980 Ford. Reasonable gas mileage would be nice and a standard transmission a necessity. Also would have to pass emissions.

4x4 a big plus but I remember a chevy w/ a positrac rear end doing just as good as a 4wd for everyday farm/firewood work.

Am I dreaming?

What should I be looking for, and where should I be looking to find a solid vehicle (foundation) that is affordable?

Thanks, Dave

I posted this on yesterday's trucks also, just want to see what you folks have to say.

A 30- 35 year old full size 4X4 pickup that gets "reasonable" gas milage ? I fear such a mythical beast does not exist. I suppose you want it to be reliable also. Why are you so down on fuel injection ? I have 150 that has a carb 300 and manual and the 250 with a EFI 460 and auto. The 460 is far less thirsty, espically when they are working hard.

my dad had a 63 chevy 1/2 ton with a 283 and i think a powerglide.it had 145 bhp.it was a go anywhere truck.then he bought a 73 chevy 1/2 ton with a 350 an i believe a turbo hydramatic and posi-traction.this was in calif.and the emission bs.it was derated to 145 bhp just like the 283.I got it stuck one time and it couldnt even spin a tire.had to pull it out with a tractor.I would look for one with a 283

What does it cost to ship a truck across the big pond?

Has to be a pile don't it?

I got a 79 150 4x4 I'd sell. Needs lots of mechanical work.

1500-2k depending on where it comes from. Nothing prettier than a red pickup......

That truck would be right at the top of the list, but Iowa is kinda out of the way for transport price. TX seems to be about the cheapest place.

It would have to be from the south/southwest US and away from coastal salt air.
Anything 1980 from areas that salt roads would have been rusted full of holes 10 years ago.

That truck would fit real good on my place.......so WHAT does it need,,,,,,And please dont tell me its a 6 cylinder with a 4 speed,,AHHHHH,,),,,,,,,,,,,Im driving a 78 at the moment,,,,well should say summer time,,,I love them ol fords

I have a 76' Dodge Power Wagon (W200-3/4pu) club cab, lwb, 400cu, 4spd, 4:10's, full time 4wd w/NP203 transfercase, 225k miles, one owner. $1k. 10mpg since new whether loaded or empty.

It runs and is driveable but will need work to keep it that way as it's getting pretty worn out.
