Got a few questions for yall. First, is the tractor negative or positive ground? Sencond, with the diesel, would you stick to the stock two 6v. batteries, or would you just go with one big 12v? Third, I took the engine out, rebuilt it, and now I am putting it back in. My problem is is that I cant get the coupler connects the clutch to the trans tight. I cant even get it a little snug. I just slides, no matter how tight you get the bolts. I can the hole on it near the trans to line up either, so I can put that one bolt it. I get it straight, but I cant slide the coupler back towards the trans enough so the holes are even. Thanks

All Olivers with generators from the factory were positive ground. On the battery, how much are you going to use it in the winter? Do you have a block heater. On your coupler. There is a grove in the clutch shaft. The coupler must be positioned so that the bolt holes line up with that grove. If your tractor has a belt pulley housing, one bolt goes in each way otherwise they will hit the pulley housing. Is your clutch shaft aligned in the pilot bearing?

I've never seen much difference in cranking power on one 12 volt vs. 2 6 volts - I'd go with the biggest 12 that will fit in the battery tray.

When I had that last 88 Diesel,I put 2 normal sized 12s in it,hooked in sequence instead of series. I think that's right. It was still 12 volt. I get the 2 confused.

On my 880D I split one side of the coupler and put 2 connecting rod caps around it and clamped it down. Ran for 30 yrs. Never would start good until I put a starter off a 510 Massey diesel combine on it. Starter will fit without alterations. Chore with it all winter long don't ever worry about it starting. Last summer finally got around to replacing clutch and everything includind front trans shaft.
