China 6 KW Generator

I got hold of a new chinese 6 KW generator and have been wondering about parts if they are ever needed. All that I have seen look almost alike. I do not know of any brand name on them.
 
That the cost of low price. No service or support.
Maybe cheaper in the long term to purchase a brand name from a local established dealer.
 
Stay away from the cheap junk. I have one in my shop that I have been looking for parts for six months. Yes you can buy them cheap. But when it comes time for parts are service for the most part you out of luck. If you need a genset get it from a dealer that will be there when you need him. You will pay more but at least you will have one you can get fixed. I have been a generator tech for forty years. Onan,Honda,Cat,Kohler and so on.
 
I've about sworn off the cheap junk. I've always shopped on basis of price, and it's come home to roost more than once. The Chinese seem to abandon models if they turn out badly, and overnight, there are no parts and no support. Dealers come and go frequently.

About the only exception is non-impact non-cutting hand tools that are used very infrequently- Harbor Freight still gets a little business from me on those. But no more chisels, drill bits or anything else that needs quality steel.
 
Neighbor has a 3500 watt one and he didn't even get 7 hrs ? on it before it quit working. Nobody knows nothing about them or will touch them. I took a look at it and figured the regulator went bad. I was able to find him one really cheap on ebay. Very lucky as it was the only part listed for any of them and it just happened to be for the 3500 w models. Put it in and adjusted it and now hope it works when he needs it.

I'd rather buy an old military unit. I have a 10 KW built in 1945 and it runs great ! Engine parts are no problem as it has a flat head Willys 4 cyl. As far as the rest of it I hope it keeps working. At least the regulators are mechanical and you can monkey with them if needed.
