How do you know who's where?

I've wondered this for a while. Is there a way to see what area each member's from without asking them? Seems like everyone (except me) is aware of where everyone else is located

Bruster , I'm with you on this. On the David Brown web site (English), you are asked to provide at least your country,in order to have the proper answers to your questions as David Brown tractors were out-fitted differently for different countries. If something similar was set up on this site (state, province, etc) I'm sure it would be appreciated by many.

I have been here for 4 years now and don't know where most are from without them telling me in some way or other.

When ever someone talks about the weather, crops or other things that refer to an area I wish they would say where this weather, crop or what ever is.

We know where some are from by their handle but most I have no clue. We can't remember where everybody is from.

By the way IaGary is from Iowa.

I don't normally respond to someone who won't post under their 'handle', but..........my IP address showed (last time I checked) that I was in South Alabama; only about 400 miles wrong.

That don't help a computer illiterate like me!
Canton's an hour away from me ,(I understand about routing points)and I live on the east side of Youngstown, Ohio 4 miles from the PA border.

The son has tried to explain it to me, Just thought there was a trick he didn't mention

I think I belong where I am.......... it's just the wife keeps tellin me where I can go, and what to do when I get there!

I am sure it would be dificult to track down where I am located.Texas is a big place.Sure would be nice if everyone would add a state or town to their handle.

Once in a while someone asks here "OT Where are You Located?" Archives 3-24-08 by Jlmtractor: quite a response there. Of course some new handles are here & some old ones are perhaps gone. Maybe it's time for another "Where are You Located?"

According to Chinese philosophy, do we really exist except in our minds? If we exist only in our minds, do we exist when we shut our eyes? Therefore, we can be wherever our minds tell us we are.

I have been yapping on this site since 2002. Every fricking day too. You just get to know each other after a while.

And sure doesnt help if someone has a rolling IP. Sometimes mine comes back New York, Virgina, etc. Rarely does it show the right place here in Kentucky. Probably will tonight since Im on dial up but who knows.

Ran "Where you From?" last fall (I think) and it was interesting to see the variety on this board. Never did get around to checking most populus? state. Peoria, Illinois
(Not to be confused with Chicago, Illinois)

hmmm just east 'o youz fellers, a littl east of dwight. pretty close to exciting metropolis of blair illinois. a set of railroad tracks, a grain elevator, a pop machine and one house.

Longitude and latitude coordinates could be posted, 44.9N, 93.3W. Oh come now, we would not want to be so revealing.

Yes, thems my real initials, and thats where i am, too, but it ain't me!
I'm "Rusty Jones"! (not really)

North East Iowa, or NE IA. Seems to me when someone asks questions like anyone got a 1,000 ton crane for sale, or anything heavy they should include a referance point of some nature.

I skip over responding because I can't see wasting my time or anyone elses. Yea, I have some 500# wheel weights valued at ten dollars. If you live near me heck yea, but if you could be ten states away I fugure perhaps they aren't real smart to begin with, so why bother.

I think on modern view it will tell you where each person is from if they decided to put that in their profile

I don't post here alot but I'm on daily reading. If some of yall can remember back to the 60's t.v programs, I'm from Hooterville just up the road from Green Acres( under my name ). The land of the deadly peanuts ! What I can't figure is all the guest who post, why don't they sign up ? Whats up with that ?

How are you guys tracing each others isp addresses . There was a free service from Whois.com but they charge now , or so I'm told . So how are you guys doing it ? What method or program are you using to do this. Please tell . By the way I'm approximately 40 miles northeast of Bowling Green , Kentucky , U.S.A. , give or take 10 miles .

It does...... In the modern view, click on profile in the red square at top and fill things out. You can include a website, email address and a couple of other things also. Also, in modern view, if you are logged in, you don't have to type in your handle and email every time you post. If classic view was turned off, it would do away with the majority of anonymous posts.

I am viewing in classic view. I see.

Name
Date of post
Time of post
Ip address.

Ip address always look like this.
192.168.0.12 always 4 sets of numbers.
Believe it or not each set means something different.
192.168 is always a internal network not on the internet. I would have to dig my IP book out to try to remember what they all mean.

Yeah, after seeing dave2's reply, I went to the modern view and filled in my info

Never thought of looking in modern view.............
The other view worked just fine, and that's where I've been from the get-go.

I think that location interest comes in handy when (like you've said), weather, what crops to plant or when. Sure don't make sense to have a guy in NY ask a guy in AR "When is the best time to plant my corn???"

Grew up in Emden, Illinois and Mom was raised outside of Beason. Have friends that now live between Lincoln and Mt. Pulaski. Small world isn't it!

(quoted from post at 05:58:36 01/28/09) How do you find modern view?

Top right of the page. You'll also find that the modern view brings things up front as soon as someone replys (no more searching through back pages). Whatever works. Modern view could be a problem for dial up (???).

:) I've always posted my location under my handle on all the forums that I'm on, in fact one of them has my full name! I haven't received any unwanted messages as a result! However, I do NOT post my email address! I will give it to legitimate users IF they contact me via PM, but that's the only way! I agree that it would be great to know what area members live in when they're posting! I also sign off with my first name (just a little more personal I guess) :?

One nice thing about using the modern view is the post are in the order they're written. Sure makes more sense that way. Also you can enter as much as you please about your interest. Just city and state is good.
