Re: Generator(s)...

Yer right, sore subject. Helluvit is, I know where we could put our hands on a BIG ol' turbo-Cat driven unit (85+KW, don't remember for sure) for the effort of unhooking it and lugging it off.

Navy base closed down, left 5 of 'em and all the switch gear abandoned in place.

Standing around in the cold with a weed-burning torch didn't sound like much fun. Can you get that big old Cat-powered generator through some federal surplus property program?

Where are you folks located and where are the generators you mentioned?

try this site: http://www.govliquidation.com/

But, if you are near a military installation, go to the Defense Reutilization and marketing office. Or google it and see if you can narrow it down to your area.

You'd be surprised how much stuff is available. Don't know about the States, but here in Germany, Joe Blow can no longer buy directly (have to go through a middle man). Used to be as simple as going online, finding a sale, and placing a bid.

Seems like single phase military generators are kind of hard to come by. The fella I do military restorations for has several military generators and all but one are 3 phase. He even has a 3 phase generator with a little one cyl Kohler engine. Dont know what they're like today but years ago it seems like the military used mostly 3ph. The single phase generator came from a civil defense sale. It's kind a a neat little outfit with a willys engine. A friend bought a single phase military generator from the local town. It too has a Willys engine.Jim
