O.T. Computer ---window too large for screen

As you are about to find out, I don"t know a lot about computers. I go to this site several times a day, so I would like to get this computer problem fixed.
My wife redid the compter by installing new virus protection and starting it up from scratch. My problem is that everything is too large for the screen.
Sometime back my computer was running in "safe mode" and it was like this. Don"t remember how I changed it back. Settings for display are Normal--Large---and Extra Large. It is set on Normal.

Set the resolution higher untill it gets fixed (usuallt 1280 1024 or so. If on XP it is appearance and Themes, then screen resolution. JimN
 
Don't know if it is right or not, but move the mouse arrow to the edge of the screen and you will see an arrow <- ... Hold the left mouse button down and move it inward towards the center of screen. Do this on all sides... Works for me...JB
 
When I load ytmag, or any other site, I only see 1/3 of the page---Everything is too large.
I tried to change resolution but can't. It is set on 640 by 480 pixels and will not change.
 
holding the control button down while turning the wheel on your mouse (if it has the hand wheel) will make the display larger or smaller. bill m.
