Need a new wheels

hi fellas
I'm going to get a new car. Wish to have a luxury car, but don't know for sure what to choose... Can somebody advise me something?

Our next car is going to be a Chrysler Sebring. I want a convertable but the wife doesn't. It may not be a luxury car but how much time does a person spend in their car anyway.

I look at a car as being a "TRANSPORTER". I got my ole 1990 F150 with a 5 speed that I feel real comfortable in. Enjoy driving it too. I only gave $400 for it and it had been sitting in a horse lot for 6 years. Had to put a little money into to get it running like a gas tank and fuel pump, went thru the brakes. When I got it home I put a battery in it and poured gas down the intake and it fired right up. I couldn't believe it. Put new tires on it and had some engine oil leaks fixed and I drive it everyday.

As for luxury it's what ever you feel comfortable with!!

Define what is luxury to you? Is it leather seats and a nice looking interior?, if so then you can get most any car with those options now. If your definition of luxury is something prestigious like Like a Caddilac or Mercedes Benz then, I'd suggest buying slighty used because those models tend to hold their value better, but the new car buyer takes a sizeable loss.

I'd take a look at a Toyota Prius Hybrid if I was looking for a new car. The big 3 really don't have anything to compete with it in fuel economy, and while they might not be the best looking car on the road, they are affordable to run. I'd tell you to buy from the big three, but outside of their sports cars, I think their cars stink.

Even the little Korean Aveo cannot compete with the Toyota Prius Hybrid or the Honda Civic Hybrid that can get 45-48MPG.

Aveo's are plaqued with problems.

Honda Fit was consumer reports best buy. Not as good of mileage as a hybrid but costs alot less and has more room inside. You can buy alot of gas for the extra money you save.

Dodge pickups have a similar lifetime warranty on their drivetrain according to the ads I have seen. I think Dodge is hoping that the majority of them will get traded within the first 5 years because the warranty does not transfer.

Set down with a calculator and carefully evaluate the savings on a hybrid even with gas at $3 A Gallon. Use the difference between the hybrid and the exact model non-hybrid. The hybrid car will be long worn out before the break even point. If you have to replace a battery before it's worn out, there is no break even. You been took.

If you want an American made car look at anything Ford. (Ford, Mercury, Lincoln). Quailty is better than any imports. I have owned them all and I am completely satisfied with Ford. Been driving only Fords now for over twelve years and couldn't be happier. If you haven't driven one lately, maybbe you should give them a go.

Ah but dodge is not even close to what Rolls has. With Rolls life time means oil changes tune ups etc etc etc etc. No questions ask no matter what the problem is or so they say

I think that the Prius is one of the worst looking things on the road. I am not sure if in the long run that they are more environmentally friendly that any other car. If you google around a little there are suggestions that it is subsidized and being dumped on our market. There is a lot more at play here than people think. The green people sure like them though.

Look at the Saab medium priced very nice car with great ride. Lots of power and good mileage. Like a BMW but only cheaper and much better ride.
Walt.

Mama drives an old Sedan DeVille and favorite daughter drives an old Eldorado. Favorite son drives a 92' F-150 and I drive an old 89' F-150 ext cab. I perfer driving "my" truck over any of them (except daughter's (my) Eldorado) on occasion. I guess luxury to me is point A to point B dependably and with a working heater.

Wow, thanks for posting! I took up your challege and went on Honda to compare their 2009 Civic sedan to their Civic Hybrid sedan. The difference in starting prices is $8,100, which would buy 2,700 gallons of $3 gasoline. To get the average miles per gallon for each car, I added the city and highway mpgs together and divided by two. I got 42.5mpg for the Hybrid and 30mpg for the regular sedan, so the hybrid averages 12.5mpg better. Next I calculated how much gas each car would burn to drive 100,000 miles. 100,000/42.5mpg=2,353 gallons of gas and 100,000/30mpg=3,333 gallons of gas, The hybrid would save 980 gallons of gas, but at $3 a gallon that would only save you $2,940. Not even remotely close to the extra $8,100 in sticker price.

How about 250,000 miles? nope, the hybrid would only save $7,353, still not $8,100.

300,000 miles?, yes, if the car lasts that long you would have saved $723 in gasoline.

Now, all calculations were done with $3 gasoline and there is some wiggle room, but its close enough to paint a pretty clear picture.

They do use less gas, but the cost outweighs the savings in the comparison I did above. Now that gasoline is much cheaper, the break even point would only get even more rediculous.

If you want nice, luxury, smooth ride. Then look at the Buick Lacrosse or Buick Lucerne. Real nice car(s). About $26-29K. 28MPG too.

It won't be long before you will have to go through a government qualification and justification process in order to purchase and use a new vehicle. The size and type of vehicle will be determined by your government. You will have to pay for the government autorization process and then pay for the road use for that type of vehicle. It will only be allowed on the road for certain purposes and only during a given time window. No other use will be allowed. The vehicle will be obsoleted by the government after it reaches a certain age and at that time you will have to apply for the rights to a new vehicle. Change is coming!

Guru,
I agree nice cars, almost as nice as my 2000 LeSabre Limited at 32MPG (proven and actually close to what on board computer says).
