I have owned several pickups in my time, chevys mostly.A ford one ton a couple of gmc,s.First was a late 55 chevy with 265 v8.Later a favorite was a 73 short bed, whitch was a lot of fun.But the one Iwish I had kept was a 69 el camino.I rebuilt a 350 engine for it and bolted it to turbo 400 trans, added dual exhaust with glasspacks.Very lightweight and wasent a load hauler at all,but boy would it run.Needed body work and was an extra so I sold it.Boy that bought it ,totaled it shortly after he boufht it .Sure wish I had kept it(hingsight)What was your favorite pickup, you wished you had kept????????

Unfortunately, I can't answer that because I still have them and they won't die! :p 3/4 ton and 1 ton dually powerstroke Fords.. Now a '56 F-500 dumptruck.. I wonder what's next!

The pickup I wish I still had, I do indeed still own. It was a 1966 Chevy short bed stepside, originally an Army pickup with Detroit locker rear axle. I blew the 6 popper one night when it was right at 20 below stop light drag racing the unsuspecting 100 miles from home, it actually made it to within 35 miles of home before the rod finally blew thru the block. Put a 283 with powerglide in it. Put 327 truck heads (bigger valves) and a Carter AFB carb on it. Has had headers on it, but back to polished exhaust on it along with a built turbo 350 tranny when it burned up setting too close to a barn that burned down in the middle of the night. DOUG

I guess I'm a little older than some of you, my favorite was a 1937 Chevy with a 47 235 six. It wasn't the fastest or the fanciest but it did just what it was made to do haul large loads up any hill no matter how long it took an never failed me once.
Was more fun to drive than of the newer one and you didn't cre if it got banged up a little.
YUP! It was just that a simple no nonsense pickup.

This one. Oh, and I still have it. Fun to drive and gets the strangest looks when on the road.

1981 Datsun diesel. 5 speed, 42 mpg. It was a heck of a truck. My dad bought it new, put 150,000 on it, gave it to me and I put 40,000 on it. Guy that bought it from me totalled it at 498,000. All any of us did besides tires, brakes, and batteries was replace one injector.

I've got one of these too !! Am in the process of restoring it . Have rebuilt the engine and just about everything else. Just about ready to paint. 1962 model. My cab doesn't have the corner glasses.

It's a 65 model. It was originally a special edition that Ford put out that year called the Spring Special. Originally Poppy Red, chrome trim on the sides, chrome bumpers and deluxe wheel covers. As you can tell in the picture, a lot has changed over the last 43 plus years. It's got the big 6 cylinder and a 3 on the tree tranny. Great fun to drive, but you can't haul a lot of weight in her.

1957 Chevy StepSide with big wrap araound rear window. Drove like a truck too; no power steering, 283 with three on the tree.
Sold it for $1100 with a fresh engine. Man! I wish I still had it.
I have a "69 long bed parked behind the barn. Gonna resurrect her some day, hopefully. Ran when I parked her 15 years ago; wouldn"t pass smog. Because of it"s age, that"s no longer an issue.

'82 Toyota SR5 shortbed, regular cab, 4WD w/ 22R engine/5-speed. Had a Warn winch, Rancho lift kit, BF Goodrich Mud Terrain radials, chrome spoke wheels, Chrome rollbar w/KC lights, Alpine stereo system, and gas was still cheap! I put over 250,000 miles on that truck. Sold it because I thought it HAD to quit at any time. Buyer drove it another 100,000 miles and sold it. Best vehicle I ever owned.

41 FORD

ive had several the one i would like back was a '62 chevy wideside, green with a white top, 235 with a 4 speed, not fast but reliable as could be, wore out the engine and dropped in another, i sold it in '82 and its still seen in this valley ocasionally, the other ive kept and still use several times a week, its a '83 c-30 dualy chassis cab, ordered new with a 12 flatbed with dump, also rack sides, and rolling tailboard, i built low sides for it too, its been hit twice and fixed, been 3 different colors thru the years, and now i need to replace the wood on the bed, and it will need a engine in a few years too, but for the price of 6 months of new truck payments i can fix her up fine again, as she needs it,everything still works on it now, and it drives better than a new truck does, when i look at the new ones i figure to just keep the 83, its the best deal, besides i met both of my wives in that truck, the bad one and now the good one, [ still got her too]

In CARS the 235 was later but in TRUCKS Chevy started putting a 235 in 1941. I have a 1946 2 ton Chevy with the original 235. It's also not a "full pressure" motor like the later 235's in the cars.

Is it rare that it says Falcon instead of econoline on it? If not, when did they change to econoline? I'm also guessing they were built around the Falcon just like the mustang. Kind of neat thing to have. dave

Ford made the Econoline van and the Falcon van in that era. The econoline was normally a service vehicle and the Falcon was a people hauler and usually had a couple of bench seats in back not unlike most mini vans today. This truck was indeed an Econoline but the doors were getting bad and were replaced with some doors off a Falcon van. So since Ford didn't actually make a Falcon truck (other than the Ranchero, I have some of those too) that would make this a one of a kind I suppose! Here are 3 of the 4 Rancheros I have. In order, they are 63, 64 and 65 models.
