OT -- RANT ! )%^$% WEEDS !

HOW do you kick sorry absentee land owners out of CRP program that never establish only grass but lots of tumble weeds that tears your fence out when wind howls 60+ mph ! They have been talked to nice and warned and local FSA manager does nothing. Yeah I'm fed up this time when fence is wiped out today. Done took pics and going to document it and file a federal complaint somehow I guess? Rant over but still mad!

Dang how big are those weeds? I thought we had some big giant rag weeds (kinda like a oak tree)
but those things must be huge.

Careful there. Our inept government will end up granting your neighbors some kind of grant to eliminate their weeds. They will probably get a check for $25,000 dollars to maintain their fields better.

This is from their website looks to me like your stuck cleaning those natural weeds off your own fence.

{The Conservation Reserve Program reduces soil erosion, protects the Nation's ability to produce food and fiber, reduces sedimentation in streams and lakes, improves water quality, establishes wildlife habitat, and enhances forest and wetland resources. It encourages farmers to convert highly erodible cropland or other environmentally sensitive acreage to vegetative cover, such as tame or native grasses, wildlife plantings, trees, filterstrips, or riparian buffers. Farmers receive an annual rental payment for the term of the multi-year contract. Cost sharing is provided to establish the vegetative cover practices.}

I understand your rant, probably not much will happen.

Your county commisioners also likely have a weed enforcement dude, can talk to them. Won't generate much more action, but could be a 2nd avenue for you.

Typically either such generates a letter to the landowner, and wait another year....

If the 'weed' is considered natural vegetation for your area, the CRP folks might have actually paid to plant it.

CRP ground has another problem even with good grass. The problem is fire, all it takes is one careless cigarette or a dry storm lightning strike. Have had both when I used to be on a volunteer fire dept back in Nebraska. The pure amount of ground cover keeps the soil muddy for quite a few days after a good rain. You can't go charging in to the CRP ground with a full load of water with a conventional fire truck, the only rigs that can go are the 6x6 or the 4x4 grass fire pickups. DOUG

Around here the last few years FSA hired a guy to go around and check CRP for trees and weeds and found lots of problems. Now all of a sudden they are out of money and the guy tells me you will only get checked every 5 years now.
