Recently saw John Deere combine harvesting corn in russia,it was on tv and suprised me.Did not know they used any American farm equipment.Did anyone else see that?

I'm actually more surprised that the russians still grow corn. I know they tried hard some 40 years ago and it turned out all bad.

Oh yes I remember reading about a British farming journalist who visited Russia not so long ago. He noticed on one farm they had a fleet of big Case tractors and lots of US and Canadian built implements.

there was a blurb on tv about russia and alot of land that hasnt been farmed since the soviet unions demise.so now we are over there to help put it back to use we got rid of the russian crap and brought in american machinery.last year they made a profit so now Putin and the government wants control

You think that's FUNNY... next year the combines made by the Ukranian parent company of Buhler/Versatile are coming to US dealers!

Several years ago Case exported probably several hundred combines to Russia. They went through my town on the railroad. A railroad cop would also follow the train I talked to one of the railroad police once when the train stopped. The headers and small stuff was shipped in containers. If I remember correctly there were 45 cars of combines (2 combines for each flat car) on each train and no other cars of anything on the train.

Local JD dealer has shipped a lot of equipment to Russia. Talked to one of his mechanics that went over there a few years ago to repair some equipment.
Interesting story. He said never again. Where he went, Iseral rented the farm ground. We took some equipment out of a lease sprayer this week that the farmer said was going to Russia.

I live where Krause Corporation manufactures implements and they have been shipping to Russia for awhile now.

This year during the state fair some Russians attended and had high dollar credit cards in hand to purchase a John Deere Gator with.

Right after the break up of the Soviet Union the need for small gas tractors was critical. I helped a friend of mine send many containers of US built 30 to 100 hp gas tractors over. With the break up of the huge collective farms no small equipment existed.

They would take any good running tractor as long as it was gas with new rubber and not 2 cylinder JD. They wanted gas because diesel was impossible to get and they could make fuel that would burn in a gas tractor.

They had no cash but would trade just about anything for them. Weapons, vodka, antiques, religious artifacts - you name it.

I got to go to Syria last year, very interesting trip. Took a day trip from Damascus to Palmyra, an ancient city that is about a 3 hour drive, mostly through desert / hilly terrain. Was very surprised to see several old JD combines driving down the road, obviously being transported from one part of the country to another, as there was no grain crops (or any place to grow them) anywhere I saw except possbily near Damascus. No headers on them, all open stations, probably passed 5 or 6 of them spread out over several miles. Couldn't get the camera out fast enought to get a picture.
