Puff Puff Puff said the diesel

Cold today and leyland didn't want to start. Just a bit of ether started it right up. After starting I noticed a slight puffing from the hole I just squirted the ether into. Does this mean a valve job is needed or could there be another source of the air puffs?

Depends what hole you sprayed ether into. Just kidding. If it runs fine just needs a little snort of nose candy to fire up when it's cold don't worry about it. It would have to have a major intake valve leak to push air back out against the stream of incoming air seems to me. If that was the case I don't think it would fire on all cylinders especially at start up.
