Hey folks,
Could something like this be for real?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERFORMANCE-CHIP-KIA-SPORTAGE-1995-2008-2007-2006-2005_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a543Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem250318379721QQitemZ250318379721QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Other cars and trucks have them, but I doubt the numbers will be that good.

Do you know how to post a link?

(quoted from post at 13:17:36 11/08/08) I just read the add... If it is real, I am gonna sell my F350 and replace it with a chipped Kia Sportage... ;)

I got rid of my F250 and haven't looked back...... Thinking to try one of these chips, just don't want to ruin anything.

45 more horsepower AND 15 more miles per gallon?

Yup, and it"s probably delivered by Santa Claus too.

Sorry, if it sounds too good to be true......

No reason to be sorry, I just don't know how these things work and if they could even attempt to show an improvement without causing damage. I'm not so worried about the mileage as a few more HP, but the chip can't make the engine bigger or increase compression, so what gives?
Has myth busters or something like that challenged these things?

I did see an episode of Mythbusters where they tested some of the so-called "miracle fuel savers" and of course they all failed.

I don't recall that a chip was one of the things tested though.

But, you are right. A chip can't increase compression, or displacement. What can it change? Fuel delivery, shift points and ignition, and what else? Car manufacturers brag over every once of horsepower and every mile they can get from a gallon of fuel.

It seems to me that if it was real, GM, Ford, Toyota, somebody would have it on their latest and greatest and the advertising would be everywhere telling us about it.

I'm not saying that a chip can't make some improvments, but 45 horses AND 15 MPG? At the same time? That is awfully hard to believe.

I'm skeptical.

Guess I'll get more mileage out of a rack of beer for the same money, and know what I'm getting

Thanks for the input.

If you read further they changed it to 30 horspower and then further it says 10 miles/ gallon guaranteed. I put one on my HHR panel with the little engine. I don't remember if it was this brand. I wanted to see if they were any good. I changed it and drove it for 1000 miles and then put the air intake filter system on it. I got 2-3 miles per gallon with the chip and another 2-3 with the intake upgrade. Don't know if they do a lot but it cost me $10.00 total for mine. I did it for mileage not peformance. The HHR runs smoother, seems to have better pickup but I drive like a little old lady anyway according to my kids. The factory says 30 miles per gallon, I went on a 300 mile trip to eastern Oregon on fairly good road not over the mountains and averaged 38. In town short trips 34. I've only got 6000 miles on the HHR. It is cheap and easy, I paid $100.00 for the air filter system....James
