More on Fence chargers

I"m getting ready to get back into the cattle business...well...small scale and have been looking at some chargers. I"ve searched some of the older post and have decided on probably a Parmak...just don"t know which one. I might can do a AC only one, but I do have a couple of remote locations that I"d like to be able to do. So that takes me to either Solar or DC powered. Any preference?? I"m kinda leaning towards the DC, maybe a magnum 12 uo. I"ve found it online for about $78....any suggestions?? Should I be considering a solar model?? Thanks.

Casey

Battery powered fence chargers do not have as hot a spark as 110 volt ones. Solar is more expensive, don"t know about how hot the spark is, you will have to ask someone else about that.

I have a pharmak and like it.

I have been using a solar charger for the past 3 or 4 years keeping sheep and goats in. No problems at all. It is HOT- No need to ask how I know lol

I've got 6 volt parmak solars. My pastures are scattered around town with no electricity available. If you ground them like the story book says and your fence is insulated good, you'll be like the maytag man. I picked up several AKO 12 volt models from ebay that I use for pastures with the Houdini's. The ground system and insulators are your money makers.
If you could post a link to the $78 parmak, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Dave

Thanks for the advice(from everyone) so far. I"ve got several smaller fields that are scatterd all over the place. The largest one is probably 5 acres or so. I would like a solar, but they are just so much more expensive. Here is the link to the Parmak Magnum 12 U.O., it"s a 30 mile charger, should be overkill for what I need, if saying the battery powered ones aren"t a lot weaker than they say they are.

I should add that I have odered vet supplies from these people before and have always had good service.

Personally, I use 110 units everywhere I can and 12v units where I cant. Solar chargers are nice, but the batteries dont last forever, and they are expensive to replace. I can buy car batteries from now until the cows come home and still be cheaper than replacing the rechargeable batteries in a solar charger.

At each farm I keep a 110 unit, and try to power as much as I can with it. On the back side of two places I do have 12v chargers. They seem to do ok, but sure dont have the punch of the wall current ones.

Galleger fencer Are a very hot fencers even the solar ones put out over 8000 volts you can"t buy to good of one in my opinion and I will not have one that don"t say at least good for 100 miles and it has to be low {impedence { SP} They will shock threw wet grass in the rain.

I have used alot of other ones but now stick with the Ghallager chargers. They are expensive, the last one I bought cost $650.00 but nothing bothers the fence. The Ghallagers have really good capaciters.

Hi Casey. Check out the Cyclops chargers online. I've switched to them here and am very pleased with them. Best lightening protection built in the charger I've been able to find. These chargers are also built in the USA. I run 4 chargers, all ac units.
