Good afternoon. My husband has recently acquired a 1958 JD 420 tractor that he is going to restore. I would like to know if there is any way to put power steering on this tractor. I read somewhere that certain models of the 420 came with power steering installed, but have not found any other information on that.
Any help, ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

It would cost you nearly 2000 in parts to put factory power steering on the tractor. You could probably fix it a little bit and sell it to buy one with powersteering already on it.

here is a link to eaton corp, they make the char-lynn power assist steering. the torque generator may fit, if you have live hydraulics on the tractor, you could splice in a priority valve. the jd forum will let you know what will fit. heres the link

Hey Mary,
I may have the pieces for power steering, do you know what type of tractor your husband has? Tricycle vs. any of the wide fronts? The factory pieces are expensive and Id say likely in the $1000-1500 range.
Thanks, Dave

Your husband will have to get a parts book and find what will mix and match to install power steering. His 420 maybe too early to have gactory power steering.
As previously stated.Cheapest and best way to get power steering is to purchase a tractor that has power steering.
