Mustang Skid Steer

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the quality and longevity or mustang skid steers. The one i am looking at has an owner that doesn't know the model but it is a early eighties model and is yellow with a four cylinder gas engine. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
The machine i am looking at.

I have one that is older yet then that. Mine is a 23 hp. Onan 2 cylinder. I've rebuilt the moter twice since I had it And replaced both hydr motors. So I am not to satisfied with mine. But never had any problems with the loader part of the machine. In it's defence I do use it a lot. Must have 5000 hrs on that machine.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your input. Out of curiosity how much does it cost to do the repairs you have had to do.

make sure it has emergency brake some roll free with moter off mine has brake missing looking for parts to put one on anyone know where I can find it looks like disk brake 330 model

If you can find a 940 or 930 series or newer you will be extremely satisfied. My father and I do excavating and have had over 15 mustangs 12 940's and three 2050's.they have been really reliable, the only thing we did on any of the 940's was put a new drive motor in one side but that one had over the wheel steel tracks on it for 3000 hrs.they are hard on a machine!the 2050's each needed a water pump at 3000 hrs(easy fix)other than that if you maintain and change the filters they are great.they are also a lot better balanced then some of the others such as a bobcat.

Thank you very much. That really helps me a lot. Do you happen to know where on those models it says what model number it is.

That Mustang was built in Owatonna,MN about 7 miles from me.Grandpa used to work there in parts dept.

Lots and lots of those machines around here.Earlier ones were light green in color.

Some real work horses with few problems.Mustang also made skid-steers for JD for a time.We have a GREAT local Mustang dealer.

I'd jump on it! Won't last long at that price.

I've got a 960 with over 3000 hrs on it and all that I have ever done to it is change oil and add fuel. Nothing more. Couldn't be happier. I'd go for the deal if I were you.

I think I'd look at one of the later V8 models, the '09 Shelby ought to be able to skid sideways through your barn...might even pick up a Daisy Duke lookalike while you're at it.

It's an older original Mustang for sure. What engine? Try to find out what type of drive it has and who makes the components. I'm just concerned that some parts might be hard to find. I agree that it needs a roll bar and almost more importantly, some kind of protection on the sides. I have heard that even the older wheel loaders that had the lift arms go beside the seat have crushed people. To run it the way it is, is extremely dangerous! If everything seems to work OK, the price isn't too bad but figure on at least $500 to have a decent roll cage and side screens built and put on. I think Mustangs were fairly well built but the original company went out of business. I think some of the former employee's brought them back and a few years later Gehl bought them out. Gehl and Mustang are almost identical except for maybe a different make of engine. It looks like it has been repainted in the picture and may not have originally been yellow. Dave

Thank you very much. I really appreciate the information. I will buy this machine and i will never buy a machine again with out asking you all first. Thank you again.
