Health is forcing me out of farming.

Next week on Thursday October 16, 2008 all of my farm related equipment is going on the auction block. I have had some serious medical problems this year and now must get completely out of farming. I'm located in Elm Hall, Michigan. I know some of you aren't to far from me, but I don't know if you have seen a flyer. If you happen to be in the area, stop-in and say hi. If you have any questions, just ask and I will answer asap. Hopefully, a link to my auction flyer is also attached here. Gene

Why would you have an auction during the middle of harvest with farm machinery?

Won't that be hard on the crowd?

It would be a sparse crowd here in Iowa with a Oct. auction, that's for sure.

Actually, most people haven't really started here. Remember, this is in Michigan. My auctioneer suggested this time frame to get the combines sold before harvest starts. I have already talked to several people in a radius out to about 90 miles, that are planing on being here. Gene

Sorry to hear your health is deteriorating.Hope your auction does well.

I see corn combined around here in December or even later. They are starting beans around here. No corn yet. And I am south of Gene.

Sorry you have health problems and have to quit farming. I quit 12 years ago with lung issues from to much dust. It has been a adjustment and not something I enjoy but the alternative didn't look good. Sometimes we have to adjust our plans but things have a way of working out and I guess speaking for myself things could have been worse.

Yea no grain corn coming off for quite a while yet, saw the very first field of high moisture run off 5 miles west of Sparta today, still lots of acres of silage to come off.

Been there, kidney transplant 18 years ago. Good luck, hopefully you can take it easy and look back to the good times, and plan all the good things that will come.

Bingo. Year started with high blood pressure problems. That's fixed. I am down to 9 blood pressure pills ( 4 different kinds) per day now. We had the month of May and most of June to work before I was diagnosed with a mass in my right lung. Had surgery July 21st. Doc removed top 1/2 of my right lung. Also found severe damage and an active fungal infection in my lungs. I have been on antibiotics every since. Take the last one tommorow.

The good news is, I can breath OK without oxygen. I just get winded very easy now. Also, I am completely cancer free now. No radiation and no chemo. I can give up farming and take care of myself for my family, with that good news. Gene

Yup,saw your sale bill in the Farm Trader, then RayP called and reminded me. Kind of thought I might come on up if the weather is good, but not good enough to be doing what I should be doing. Kind of envious of you getting out,but not that way. I know, that's why I sold the dairy cattle. Had an episode with my heart and wrote up an ad while I was lying in intensive care. Told the wife to put it in the Farmers Advance and get rid of them.
