I know a man who bought a used or demonstrator model bale bandit 3 years ago, over $40,00.00. He's lucky he does not have to depend on the hay business to pay for it.

If you've got 40 grand to spare, forget the aptly named "Bandit" and get a good used self-propelled harrowbed and be done with it.

Last year at the Farm Science Review I was told $56,000. $40,000 some for a used one that they have gone over and updated at the factory. Cheapest used one I ever saw the individual was asking $36,500.

Rob....Evidently you have not priced a New Holland Stackliner recently. Not that the Bale Bandit can keep up with one in the field, but it does build and tie a package that can be mechanically lifted onto/into either a flatbed or van highway trailer. The labor savings quickly pay for one if if you are doing a few hundred acres of hay.

I didn't realize it made a "package"- that would be handy for handling small bales like big squares, including loading them onto horsey girl's pickup, then she can unband it when she gets it home to handle the small squares individually. Around here, small squares are worth up to double $$ per ton compared to rounds or big squares. Point of my post is, some guy converted a big square baler to accumulate and tie bundles, it was in Farm Show an issue or so ago. Don't know how much he had in it, but I think considerably less than 40 grand.
