Straw round bales

I've watched some of the Tour de France and every time I've seen straw round bales lined up they are stacked side to side. Are they different from round hay bales? or is just the French?

Lots of wheat straw rolled up around here. Its edible if the stock gets hungry enough, lol, or it can be injected with anhydrous ammonia to make it into decent feed. Most of it is used for bedding, however.

Are straw bales different from hay bales? Uhh... yeah.

Sorry guys, like I said I was just refering to how they were stored. I am fully aware of the botanical difference between the two and the uses of each for the equine and bovine.
Guess I was dizzy from watching the wheels go round and round.
