Grounding field on gen., gen.
charges, Can"t find field resister? My manual says in lighting circuit, Would it be internal in the light switch?

A super MD would be a 12volt but it would have a regulator. There should be 3 positions on the light ODB Off Dim Bright. Unless it has a LHDB Low charge High Charge Dim Bright 4 position Switch (which it should not).
So it needs a regulator with three (or 4) posts
Gen---Field----Bat---and if equipped L (which stands for load and is often connected to the light switch fused input terminal. Nothing to do with regulation, it just supplies charging voltage to the lights.

If it has a for position, it is not standard on that year. JimN

A common cause for not charging when the generator works with the field grounded, is an open ground on the regulator (or light switch if it controls the field). You can prove that by grounding the field wire to the regulator base at the regulator. If it charges then, the problem is the regulator. If it won"t charge then, you probably have a poor ground on the regulator.

Thanks for the help, the old girl is charging again. I jumpered field to regulator case and she charged. Took hookups off and cleaned each connection of reg., started up and AOK. Brissco
