I have NH 256 pull type rake and when i start to rake it and rolbar wont turn all the way. When i free the rolbar and it turns around good. Does it have to with spring inside the wheels?? I dont think it does not have to do with anything with gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think we need more info. Did this just start? Do you have the gearbox engaged so that the rake should be driven off the ground? I know I bend one of the round bars that the tines go down inbetween. Sometimes the rake would work fine and other times a tine would get on the wrong side of the round bar and the thing would lock up solid..

When the gear is not engaged, the rolbar turns realy good. But when i begin to rake and engaged the gear box then rolbar wont turn all the way. It like turn and stop and turn and stop. I talked to New Holland dealer and he thinks it might be a broken spring inside the two wheels or too much grease that needs to be cleaned. That what he told me. I hope not gearbox. Thanks

Dad raking this weekend and a bar came loose. How do you go about replacing the bearing in the end of the bar.

This is a ground drive rake. Are the tires slipping? They would if it is all locked up. It could be the dogs not engaging or a dog spring not holding it up to engage. Is the gear box engaged? If you jack up the rake and turn the wheels will the basket turn? We need a little more information.

Take both of the rear wheels off and remove the dog clutch housings and clean out all of the old and excess grease, check them springs for the dogs and make sure they are holding the dogs up so they will engage the notches and act like a ratchet, i.e. turn rake going froward, freewheel in reverse. If the springs are no good, get new ones, they are only a few bucks each.

I am trying to replace the DOG & Spring on the left wheel, next to the gear box on a 256 NH rake.
I have nothing to go by as the old spring wasn"t there and the DOG was broken inside the wheel. So I have no idea how they go back in place.
Does the "L" of the spring go on top or below the DOG? And I am guessing that the spring goes between the DOG and the hub?????
ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRICIATED.
I wish I had a picture to go by!
