Farmall A running good

I finally got my a fired up. I can get it running good in the barn for a few minutes but when I get her goin in about a minute she"ll bog down. Same when I put her in a higher gear.

any body with sugestions. I"m just a beginner so dont hold back on the simple stuff.

sounds like a fuel problem, gas tank vent pluged, trash in fuel bowl, carb needs cleaning.Take gas line off at carb and let gas run in a container and see if it will run without stoping. If it stops, check for one of the above.....

Check to make sure you have a good steady flow of gas. Pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and see if you have a good flow there for 5 minutes or so, catch the gas so you can save it and also look to make sure its not full of rust. If you have a good flow there then the problem maybe a bad condenser

Take a pair of insulated plier's and pull off one of the plug wires and see what the fire looks like
to the plug when the engine is at an idle. Should have a hot spark. You may have a fuel problem if there's not enough fuel getting to the engine. Remove the gas line at the carburetor and hold a clean container beneath the gas line to catch any gas. Should have a full stream of gas. If there's just a trickle you have blockage in the tank or gas line.

If there's a full stream of gas remove the tube fitting on the carburetor, be careful not to damage it. There should be a screen behind that fitting that may be full of rust or crud. If it's clean the carburetor probably needs to be cleaned and rebuilt. Make sure the governor is working. Hal

Fuel tank outlet is bad about plugging where the fuel leaves the tank above the sediment bowl. There also could be a flat piece of screen in the top of the sediment bowl that might be plugged?

OK I tried everything you guys suggested. There is a steady flow of gas to the carb, no clogs. Gas is clean etc.

It will run nice and smooth for about 5 minutes but will them bog out like I choked it. It will also still stall when put into gear

Is it puffing out black smoke like it may be over fueled? Carburetor may be set too rich if it is.
Float too high, may have a pinhole and is sinking.

PS: I would install a new condenser to eleminate
it.

what exactly does the condenser do?

where do I adjust the amount of fuel into the carb it does puff a little smoke. I am afraid it is also burning oil. either that or all the grease of burning off

PS. How exactly do you check the oil on the Farmall A ther is not to holes like the bigger farmalls.

There should be petcocks on the oil pan for checking the oil level. The oil level should be between the lower petcock and the upper one. If the tractor is going to be used hard I would make sure its at the upper petcock.

The condenser absorbs part of the low voltage current when the points are open. They do go bad
at times. Hal

Your float adjusts the level of gas in the carburetor. These carburetors on the A's, B's & C's don't have a main adjustment screw like what's used on the H and M's where you can lean the mixture or enrich it. Your carburetor probably needs to be cleaned & rebuilt and check the level of the float height. Hal
