dog gone suburban's rear took a dump in Memphis as we were towing back from the ApHC World show in Jackson ( we crushed it there!) 3 horses in the trailer when it let go- I punched 4WD and limped to the next exit smokin' like crazy.
Praise Jesus there was a Chevy dealer right there (Serra) with some of the most helpful folks I have ever met (service dept closed til Monday tho- and I'm sure this bill will be huge). And THANK YOU JESUS Agricenter international just down the road renting stalls for the day and also just as helpful as all get out. Lent me a 2500HD to tow the trailer and stock to the Agricenter, and then drove me back there when I returned it.
Yes, I am 900 miles from home with a busted truck- but I have 3 world champs safe in a barn instead of on the highway shoulder, the truck someplace where it can get fixed, the kids safe in grandma's motorhome and my brother on the way with the big truck to haul the critters home.
A week from now I'll be hatin' life when I have to get back down here and pay the repair, but THANK YOU LORD for not leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere with nothing to work with!

Jose,
Congrats on the good showing. You had those champs to ride out of the wilderness, and if you were in Donner Pass they would have been handier than a neighbor; with enough BBQ sauce they taste just like chicken. Seriously, glad you did well and it's only broken machinery makes the story more interesting, broken rearends with a trailer aren't always a pretty picture.

I love Memphis! I went to engineering school there when I was in the Marine Corps.

I got out of the Corps at Beaufort, SC and came through Memphis on the way home to Nebraska. I've thought more than once over the years I should have said, "I'm home" when I got to Memphis.

To bad thats about 250 miles south east of me or you could board your hoses on my place. Of course my horses might stuff of try to figure out the pecking order but all would work out. So I guess what I'm saying is brake down close to the lake of the Ozarks next time LOL

Glad things worked out so good. Is the shop going to install a new rear end? A used may be a little less money? Been to Memphis my self back in the 60's while in the Navy. Stan

I'm glad to hear it. Some things that the man upstairs does for people is so swell! I mean, He does wonders all the time, but that's just one of them moments!

Glad it worked out. I used to have to stay in West Memphis occasionally for work. If you had landed there they would have stolen everything that wasn't welded down, and probably eaten the horses!!!

Bad time to have a breakdown, with heat, humidity, grew up shipping horses, we had a business doing that, my father used ship down your way, mostly up here, but if it were not for those nice people, you're a rock in a hard place with horses in tow, I can appreciate that situation, glad you found some shelter, nothing like a long ride with horses, and it aint over when you get to your destination, shots and all the rest before you're done, brought 2 up straight from fla in '05, one long continous ride that is for sure, not exactly what I call fun.

Some good folks in Memphis.......lot of the old traditional Southern courtesy still exists. Of course, Memphis ranks 1st or 2nd in crimes per capita and in a lot of other lists you really don't want to be on. Most of that is in S. Memphis and N. Memphis; not E. Memphis where you are (West Memphis is in AR and is a whole 'nother town). If you've got a way to get around, you owe it to yourself to eat some barbecue. Closest place I'm personally acquainted with is 4 or 5 miles East of the Agri-Center on Germantown Pky.......Corky's at 1740 N. Germantown Pky.

Congratulations on the show results. Nothing worse than breaking down with stock somewhere. Sounds like you came out pretty good all things considered. I have done the trailer transfer in an awfully remote piece of real estate before. Thank goodness for cell phones as well.

I had a flat in West Memphis, Ar two years ago towing out to OKC- locals jumped on it like a pit crew practically before I got out of the truck.
I hear Memphis is bad in areas, but I gotta tell you: Jackson, Ms was the "hood"! More shake down artists and thugs on the streets there than DC!
I'll give Corky's a try tonight

Well, it ain't East of the Agri-Center; don't know what I wuz thinking; it's toward I-40/Wolfchase Galleria.
