966 ih injuction pump

question. one of the guys i do repair work for. i rebuild his engine. new injuctors. rebuild pump. the other day it dumped the crank case full of fuel. when i check it i noticed that the 4 bolt holding down the head. 3 were sheared off the other complety gone. i never seen ths happen. was wondering if any one eles has.
 
Hello Ben,
I think you are talking about the bolts that hold the injection pump head down, if so I have never seen that that. you said you had the pump rebuilt, I would take it back to them or buy a good reman pump. It must be a problem with the pump.

Are you saying that you rebuilt the injection pump or you bought it rebuilt. It sounds like those bolts were over torqued if they just broke off. Which bolts are you talking about and maybe we can help you for sure.

I have seen broken blots a few times. Most likely what happened is that the one bolt that is missing came loose which allowed the head to move a couple thousands of an inch. That little movement will cause the other bolts to flex. They will become work hardened and then break.
 
no had a rebuilt sent in from spencer diesel have always had real good luck with them what i should of done in the first place. but custmore was wanting to save a few bucks. local guy had sugery and was not inclined to to any thing about it.
