How and when do you know you have to many projects/property and them thin them out? Several of us are in that boat locally. Running out of storage, going to get to it next year (10 years ago)can't find the pieces, didn't know we had that extra engine, item etc. No time for myself (to many buildings need work or engine needs minor overhaul on weekend etc.) items in boxes (no room to set it up). Were not getting any younger don't need to sell for monetary reasons but seems hard to part with much. Did i mention the vechile that needs minor work but has been parked for several years and we were going to look at more this weekend? Some say its a compulsive disorder or something. Oh yes we need 2 or 3 for parts or as a spare!! your opinions.

Let me know when you figure it all out. "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it" If I would cure myself, I'd have so much room I'd go crazy and probably fill it up again.

The secret is to never run out of projects cuz when you do, all thats left is the rockin chair and boredom. I figure I'll never die cuz I have way too much to do. lol

There"s no such thing as too many projects. Sometimes just NOT ENOUGH TIME.

I have a full time job, own a business that takes another 40 to 50 hours per week to manage, a small hobby farm, several old tractors in various stages of rebuild, plus, remodeling the house, growing a huge garden, not to mention a wife, 3 grown kids, 5 grandkids, and 2 dogs. In my spare time I love to hunt for and collect antiques of all types.

Life is NOT boring. Like that song that"s been playing on the radio here lately, I"ll sleep when I"m dead.

(quoted from post at 04:56:25 06/18/08) I bet your wife could cure your problem if you went on a trip for the weekend.
Do you know my wife?????????
When we bought our place, there was a 5 ton dump wagon here for the sole purpose of hauling horse *** away and dumping it on a farmers field for him to spread. Beautiful wagon 6' wide and 14' long with a hand pump or hookup for hydraulics to tip it either right or left. I went away for work for 3 days and came back to see the wagon setting in front of the neighbor's house and a chincy little 4x6 trailer "that was so much more practical for our use" that he'd traded her for it. Wasn't sure who I wanted to kill first......
10 years later she's still alive and offering to help me clean up. As for the neighbor, he was a kid at the time and only following his old man's example. He's grown up and pretty much honest now even though his dad is still a crook. BTW they were having work done on their house and using the wagon to haul stuff away when the crane base slipped and pretty much wiped it out :)....

As for the valuable material I have laying around that the darling wife refers to as junk, I get the urge now and then and pick a spot to clean. Like a shopping trip sometimes as I find stuff that I forgot I had.

my wife is always on me about having stuff unfinished and leaving stuff half done.....

but i have a theory if you leave something undone you will never have nothing to do... so she cant make you an even longer honey do list.... well atleast that is what my wife does cuz she doesnt more undone stuff laying around so she doesnt make my list even longer!!!

The only problem with having more than one parts machine,... is that you start looking at the other parters and thinking you can build up another tractor from them..

A little voice should tell you what to thin out & what to cut back on, if you're like me. The answer to that one is inside us. Also, the Golden Retriever around here sure knows how to take away worries- but then you get even less done!

I don't have so much "stuff" except for all my hunting and fishing gear and dog training stuff and books and .... I do have lots of projects, mostly woods thinning and habitat improvements. Several acres to cut; should last the rest of my life.

To me you never have to much stuff. Last count I had 34 tractors. Ya some are only parts machines plus a lot of equipment also. I figure the way gas prices etc. are going it might be nice to have a lot of stuff thats payed for so as to batter with when theres no money to spend

How many of us have sheds or large garages and or pole barns to hold "stuff" that isnt used, is broke or should have been in a garage sale years ago. I went through and tossed a bunch of stuff back in 2005. I got a 10 yard dumpster and tossed lots of crap that was useless. I finally got the wifey to agree to give away the baby crib that belonged to my boy (now 7 years old) We gave the crib to somebody who needed it, feels better then getting $20 for it. I gave away 2 baby gates that were in the garage. I gave away 10 sheets of plywood to a friend that needed it for a chicken coop he wanted to make. I called a scrap steel guy to come and pick up some channel iron and a lawn tractor that ran, but was useless. Moral of the story: Dont build extra storage for 1000's of dollars to hold nearly worthless stuff that is worth a few hundred bucks.
