I need to replace the hinges on both the air conditioning condenser door and the right vent window on my combine.

Originally, they were just a 2" wide strip of soft plastic/rubberish stuff bolted along both edges with some small stove bolts. This "strip" would then just "flex/bend" when the door/window was opened.

Wonder what the heck I could use to replace those things? Something that could stand a heck of a lot of flexing over time? Kinda thin stuff; 1/32" thick maybe?

Hello Allen in NE.
Why ont use a continuos piano hinge. You can get a stainless one cut it to lenght and be done with it!:).

Allan - Maybe one of the world war two nylon belts worn by the soldiers? , or a piece of military canvas? Reuse the bolts. bob farrell

Most hardware stores/building centers, like Ace, Menards, Farm & Fleet, etc., have continous hinges. Usually called "piano" hinges, I think. Usually a choice of finishes, too.

Clorox bottle cut in strips....I used this for "trunk lid hinge" material on stock cars for years, ran it in 6" sections secured with "big head" pop rivets. Worked good, was tough yet flexibe, "real cheap" and the leftovr bottle top made a good funnel. Can't speak to durability in the cold, though.

Also makes good number plates for motorcycles and go carts...beleive it or not, youcan put a nice bead in it with a bead roller too!

somebody around here was able to get some really heavy synthetic felt from a local paper mill (I think) years ago and that stuff is great for things like that if you can cut it. I've seen pieces that were on the ground for 10 years and didn't rot. We even used some for skirting on a stump grinder once.

Hello Allen in NE
I dont like the alternative. Getting old isn't always a bad think.......... wright?
We need to make sure that we don't educate our children behind their IQ (NOT MY QUOTE!).

I got some nice aluminum .080" thick piano hinge from Surplus Center in Lincoln, Ne. Very reasonable. They have web site and mail order.
