copper starter relay bolt

A helper some months back stripped the copper bolt on the relay, top of starter, that the battery attaches to. Can't keep things tight, and it's now time I need to replace that bolt. Probalem is can't find it.

Starter repair place had none. Searched on-line can't find anything. I hope I don't have to replace the entire relay because of one bolt....that's designed in a way to be easily replaced.

The bolt is copper, has a squared off thin T head on it, so it slides into a slot on the relay, then tightens to the relay. About a 5/16.

Anyone with ideas where I can get? The starter is on a MF2705.

Check you local hardware store. Maybe even the local electric supply house would have something

Brass toilet bolt maybe? would require some reworking for sure. You can still get some brass bolts at the hardware store

I have those 5/16 brass John bolts with nuts. You can probably find them in your area. You can have these if you want them. Hal

I little searching for a johni bolt...and now I see. But when the auto starter rebuiling place didn't have them, I went to an auto parts, then to an old time hardware store that everyone here in this town goes to for the odd ball items, and none of them had it.

But I'm thinking one of the brass ones for the toilet will work...and if that fails, I'll rethread to 1/4 x 20.

Thanks guys.

What is the make of the starter and solenoid, and can you post a photo of the bolt? I have LOTS of that kind of stuff laying around.

Brass DOESN'T work well for a solenoid contact/ bolt.

Yes...here's a pic. I was wondering mhyself about the type of metal used, whether that is an issue. I don't know the brand of relay, but this is on a MF2705. Let's see if the 'optional image url' works on this reply
