I have a 1968 International 434 Diesle tractor. When it is a very cold day,,or anytime in winter, when first started up ,the tractor is very hard to steer. It just seems as though the steering is locked!Actually today i was plowing ,and had to let it set and idle at least 15 min ,just to steer it a bit. After an hour of working it,it seems to steer pretty well. What is causing this hard steering from cold startup?...I actually seen a bit of fluid seeping from around the front of the dash,,about the place where the steering is...last fall.It dosnt seem to be now..... thanks.

could be frozen condensation in the lines...or too thick of an oil... or just a really really cold day which it is perfectly normal to let a tractor warm up!

Yea,,could be.Ill have to wait till the weather warms up to have a look..meanwhile,ill just have to let it sit and warm up.
Also,i forgot to meantion this ....the steering wheel seems to spin around a lot...started doing this last winter. It used to be very tight steering ,,now it is very loose, and as i say the steering wheel spins about all the way around to just turn the wheel a bit.The bearing cap at the base of the steering wheel is lose.this was supposed to have new bearings,or bushing installed a couple years ago....seems odd.Thanks.

Mine did just the same, the steering box had a load of water in it, the gearbox was as bad.
