I"ve got a later model Bobcat 610 (steel swing back over the engine rather than cast iron) and a Wisconsin VH4D gas engine. I do have the service manual for the 610 & Wisconsin engine. I just finished replacing wire leads and connections that were old and worn out. The white wire from the Delco alternator wasn"t connected does that go to an alt light? -- the red one then goes to BAT terminal and and then back to the battery with a fusible link to recharge? I found that it lacked the normal Bobcat voltage regulator called for in the Bobcat manual. Should I wire it in as the manual mentioned. I"ve got a Delco alt. Thanks! Ray in Winter, WI.

Aloha, The white wire can go to a switch and back to batt or it may go to a resistor, lamp or diode to the ignition switch. The reason for the resistor, lamp or diode if it goes back to the ignition switch is to prevent back feeding when the ignition is off.
Was this working before you rewired it??

Yes, the engine was and is working but the white wire was just hanging down unconnected and bare.

Aloha, Was it charging with that Delco Alt before or did you have another type of alternator before the rewire??

It wasn't charging the battery before.

Aloha, The white wire needs to be connected. See my other post. Does your machine have a dash light for the alt? One simple way to make it work is to connect the white wire to an on/off switch and the other terminal back to + battery if this a neg ground system. You could also wire the white wire to the alt light on the dash or a resistor or diode.

There isn't a Alternator light but I can get one and mount it on the operator panel. Then I'll run the other side back to the battery (hot). Yes, it's a neg ground system. Do I need a fusible link on the connection to the battery? Thanks for the help. Sounds like you're in Hawaii. Cheers! Ray

I don't have a bobcat manual. Why don't you change the Delco multi-wire alternator to a 1 wire Delco ? I've used them extensivly on all types of equipment. I buy them for about $ 55.00 from my electrical rebuilder . I've used them on everything from 8-n to JD 450 dozer. Thet work great. Make sure the pulley is a smaller one so the alternator will spin up fast enough to energise. If you need to get a regulator for the Bobkitty , you're already there in price of the 1 wire ..With less problems..
